New pads and rotors

So, 08 Fit Base with MT. Nothing done as far as upgrades besides tint, alarm/remote start and audio system. I've got just shy of 22k on it, and I love the car more than when I bought it.

So here's the problem: around 15k miles, I started hearing a whine that is usually associated brake pads coming to the end of their life. The sqeak only happened on the right front wheel, at least that's my best guess. It also only lasted a few days, maybe a week at the most. Well, I didn't think anything of it, just kind of figured it was bit of wearing in that was happening. Then at about 17k miles I started noticing some very slight shuddering when braking hard, say getting off of the freeway. Now this started to worry me a bit. By 19k miles it was now a bit more significant, enough so to be annoying. I took my Fit if to the dealership to have the oil changed around then (the last time for that, I'll be doing my own from here on) and asked them to look at the brakes when the rotated my wheels.

I told the tech about the shuddering and the brief squeaking. He said they'd look. Afterwards, he told me that I have just over 7mm left on the pads, and that you usually don't change them out till there's less than 3mm. When I asked him about the shuddering, he said that it's just uneven wear because of the softer brake pads that Honda has been using since 2006. So, I felt that it wasn't anything to worry about, and that it will wear itself even eventually.

Well, 2,000 miles after that, it's just plain pissing me off. I don't care what the problem is, I just want to brake without any shuddering. I'm also worried that my braking power is compromised, and that if I need to stop immediately I may not be able to. So, I've decided to buy myself a set of pads and rotors, and my buddy is going to help me put them on.

That means that I need advice about pads and rotors. I'd like to not spend too much, which is why I will not go to the dealership. I'm sure they'd charge me over $250 to do it. I'd like to keep it under $150 if possible. I don't need anything performance related, as I will not be doing any form of upgrades to the car in the future. I have no problem ordering online, but time is a bit short as I'm going for a 800 mile drive next week, and I'd like to be able to stop! Basically, I'm looking for cheap, yet long lasting.

Thanks guys!

May not pertain to you, but working at Honda I see some stuff before TSB's are issued. I know the 08/09 Accords have a brake noise problem, and its about 50/50. Sometimes they cover it under warranty and sometimes they do not.

Hawk pads are a great great buy. Rotors I do not have any knowledge on my own car about, but have heard that Brembo blanks and Powerslot work realyl well.

^^^same here. I'm thinking about upgrading the brakes soon and was looking at hawk pads w/powerslot rotors and possibly goodridge brake lines.
