Gauging Interest: New Intake for GD Fits
Hey guys,
I am a young engineer in the Toronto area and I want to start making toys for my Fit. My first plan is to make an intake and maybe sell a few.
Since this is pretty much the place to go to feed our Fit addiction, I want to know what you guys think and what you might look for in an intake.
Would you prefer a LastStation PowerBox type SRI or a PRM type intake?
How important is the Ultimate Horsepower gain versus midrange power for drivability?
Do you mind drilling a few mounting holes to secure it, or do you want a straight bolt-in with hand tools?
Lastly, how much would you be willing to pay?
I am hoping for a gain of 4-5 HP, improved throttle response and a cost around $300-400 CAD (plus shipping) with most of the gain in the 4-5000 rpm area. I am going to aim high for fit and finish, and make it a simple bolt-on with hand tools.
If I can hit these marks, would you be interested?
Please let me know in the comments.
Thanks,
-Jeff

Just some more background about me.
I'm a car nut, and I really dig my Fit.
I am a degreed mechanical engineer in the Toronto area. I also have access to a full featured machine shop to make my car-related dreams come true.
I will obviously post a lot of pics once the intake is done, and I plan to have it dyno'd to confirm my calculations and design. I will post all that when I have something that I am comfortable selling to you guys. I'm not looking to make a quick buck here. I think that I can make a better intake for my money than the others on the market. My plan is to sell a few of these to finance my next part, and sell a few of those to finance a K20 swap.
Any info/opinions/insight help.

Yeah, I will for sure. I'm not at that stage yet exactly. I still want to get some insight from everyone here to see what type and design they would prefer.
I have a design in mind, but want to take into account other people's tastes and preferences before I make one, so that they will be what people want to buy.
I will be doing the calculations and CAD work this week for the first concept, and the CFD simulations next week probably. After that, I will begin production of my first prototype for testing.

For my next project I was thinking a rear underbody tray w/ diffuser. To cover off the area after the rear axle and smooth out the airflow in that area. But that's for after the intake project.
Any other opinions on an intake?

You can be the first to make an intake that will
fit with a 51r battery in place.
the stock air box works with a 51r battery, but
all the intakes out there don't compesate for this battery size,
most of us, I think... don't want a stealership $battery$.
Currently I have a hacked up supa sucker, crack here and there
intake.

i dont know what a 51r battery is...
im gonna make the intake to fit a stock engine bay... so i guess it won't fit this 51r battery size??
also, thanks for letting me know. its good to know that everyone has pretty much got their intake set-up figured. any info is good info.
I will post a pic of the concept design when i CAD it.
thanks,
