I use my hitch for a bicycle carrier (my road bike) and also for my 4x8 folding trailer (don't use a lot but nice that I can!)

I added decking and tie down rings... can also add side rails when needed too. Stores in only about 2.5' deep when standing/folded.

 

I have that same trailer!

 

I put a hitch on mine the other day... I am just using it for my mtn bike so far, but I will get a light trailer in the summer for carrying mulch and stuff.

 

I wonder if I could tow a 92-95 Civic hatchback shell with my GE8.

I'm pulling a teardrop camper trailer with no problems.. 4x10 foot platform and 4ft tall. we left out of belair,md and went up the east coast to bar harbor,me. unbelievable as it may be, the areodynamic benefit over came the trailer weight and we got 31-32mpg average(fill ups @ 300 miles) over the course of the trip. the trailer weighs in @ approx 1000 lbs fully loaded.

only bad thing about pulling is it takes 20 minutes to answer the questions at gas stations about why i'm pulling a camper with a fit

I tow my dirt bike on my harbor freight 3x4 trailer quite often and get 30mpg doing so.

I needed this fridge, and the HF trailer had a bike rail on it, so I borrowed a friend's trailer. This is probably a wee bit past the limit of safe towing, and I only had to carry it across town to my home. At 50mph I had no issues.

I readjusted the fridge after pic to have less tongue weight, wasn't squatting anything like that when towing.

@Monkey50 Really like the look of your teardrop! Your trailer bed is 4' right? What do you think? Is 5' too wide for the Fit? I'm just eying my queen mattress and thinking I don't want to go any narrower.

 

I pull an 875 pound 5x8 utility trailer with 10"electric brakes. Hauled around 500 pounds of furniture plus trailer weight. No issues at all

Also just added a tongue toolbox from Harbor freight. good to keep all my straps and bungees in there.

I don't plan to tow a lot. I've got a few interior scratches from trips to the hardware store. So far towing aided in the revenge on the tree that damaged my 2010 fit. The trailer is the 4ftx8ft harbor freight folding trailer I bought for my dad so I could borrow it.

 

This was the load of furniture I hauled before installing Monroe air shocks.



This was the heaviest load yet, about ~700ish pounds of tools, cinder blocks, and wood....plus trailer weight of 875.

 

I have a 2010 fit sport...can someone suggest a brand for an easy to install 2" hitch? I'm looking to add a cargo carrier for trash runs to my local dump.

 

Just get the 1 1/4. I'd have preferred a 2" myself, but manufacturers don't like making them for tiny cars (that don't even have tow ratings).

They make 1 1/4 cargo racks, and if you really need something that's only a 2, you can get a step up adapter. I have one of them for the bike rack.

 

I've always wanted a reason to use this...I guess this is as good a time as any

 

I got the curt hitch. Install was easy & a co-worker has used his since 09 on his fit. Curts t connector is super easy to install too. I use mine to tow small loads on the harbor freight trailer.

 

I have a 2012 Base AT Fit. A year ago I went to etrailer.com, and bought a hitch, airbags to augment the rear coil springs, and an automatic transmission cooler to install ahead of the stock radiator. Put about 10,000 miles pulling a tiny trailer built on a Northern Tool utility trailer. It weighs 750# dry, about 1000# loaded. Works fine. To my surprise in hills the gearing handles things, although I do get slowed down on mountain grades. The weak point I felt were the front brakes...I never hit anything, but the pedal pressure needed was great a few times. I just exchanged the stock ceramic brake pads up front with a set of semi-mettalic EBC pads, which were popular with the autocross group from what I gather. Much better feel to the brakes now...not as much force, and easier to modulate braking. compared to ceramic, these will put out more dust...will require less pressure...will wear out faster. I'm ok with all of that.
