What is your preference on shift knob weight/shape?
So i just bought a 2017 6MT and the knob is very worn down. The rest of the interior is in great shape so I will probably be replacing it soon. So I see most people like weighted knobs, theirs a lot of variation though. for round knobs (what sound best to me, although I haven't tried other shapes) I've mostly seen 150-250g for aluminum, 350-450g for stainless steel, and sub 100g for unweighted knobs. Then there are other shapes, like the skunk2 seems super popular and is I guess what would be called a teardrop? Of course I'm not going to be racing in it, I'm barely learning to drive the manual transmission anyway. So maybe these are all overkill, I do want it to feel good though. Any recommendations? And maybe I should wait until I've got more practice so I can actually tell if I like the change.
Anyways, it looks like the previous owner replaced the accordion boot with a leather one and installed this Acuity Shift Boot Collar, but they did a terrible job of it. The zip tie that holds the collar is on the outside of the boot like this
Rather than inside like this:
Also it's over the binding nut instead of bellow it, so it does not go down when you release the collar, it only drops like a quarter inch.
Unless you find something you really like I’d just go back to stock.
In my Fit I use the stock Fit shift boot and the stock shift knob from my S2000. It gets wicked hot/cold depending on the weather. The stock knob does not do so.
I had a Skunk 440g on my 2009, really liked the shape and the feel--made an easy shift even easier. Skunk shift knob. I did put a sunglass cloth bag/sock over it in the summer... got hot!
I also had a short shifter, but I forgot which brand. It was similar to this Buddy Club quick shift kit.

So you like the tall shape of the skunk2 better than the spherical ones?

Yes, and the Skunk was cheaper and heavier for the price than the leading spherical shift knobs. The shifting is so light, I didn't really need a heavy knob, but I liked it.
In all my years, I've never heard of having a different weight on the shifter knob. I can't even imagine a reason to care. The best I can come up with is shipping weight which has everything to do with the cost of getting it shipped to you and nothing to do with driving. I have never thought that the OEM shift knob was a problem in any way so I also vote to stick with OEM. If you like the look of another knob then there's that too. I wouldn't want one that's too slick as dry slippery hands on a slippery knob (get your mind out of the gutter) makes for a poor combination but other than that....

Both of your links go to the Buddy Club quick shift kit.
So with these tall skinny ones do you still put your palm on top to shift them or are you supposed to grab it like a lever? Also are these actually from Mugen? because I don't see them on the mugen site, only a round carbon fiber one that seems to be $150+ and a round aluminum one for $80. This style show up around amazon and eBay for like $10. And its not that I want to spend money just cause, but my first impresion would be that someone is slaping mugen's brand on these. unless there's something else I'm not seeing.

Amazon and eBay are selling fakes. The actual Mugen knob in that style are long discontinued.
as for using them, everyone does it differently. When I had one I grabbed/pushed like a lever, but I had one in a car with a lower seating position relative to the shift knob.
I like my Skunk2, but it is dangerous in the summer. I might try a Spoon delrin knob, one day.
I had a metal one on my old Mazdaspeed 3. Can't tell you how many times I burned my hand on it. You couldn't pay me to get one of those (the one on the Speed3 was on there when I bought it).
I don't really like the feel of the stock plastic knob on my GK5, but since I hate metal knobs, I'm thinking of transplanting the leather wrapped one out of a Civic SI. Same look, better feeling, and it's an OEM+ upgrade if you're inclined to favor that.

Sport/RS model Fit also has a leather wrapped knob. Although I'm not sure if it is real leather or synthetic.

These knobs are from the 1990's King Motorsports sold them in the past but they are now discontinued. Cheap fakes are still available all over the place.
