My brakes are grinding. Someone told me all I needed was the rear brake shoe set. So I got that from carquest. Guy fell through that was going to install. Every time I call shops they ask about pads, rotors and drum.

What exactly do I need

 

Your rear brakes are drums and shoes.

Your front brakes are pads and rotors.

 

Brake grinding is normally on your front brakes. The ones that get used the most. Those are very easy to inspect on your own. You will clearly see metal shavings and severe wear instantly.
