Question about interior windshield meeting dash
Hi everyone,
Proud Fit owner here since last June. Love the car. Can any of you tell me if your Fits have a black colored piece of styrofoam-type material inserted between the far left side of where the dashboard and windshield meet on the inside of the car?
I've noticed this on mine...no big deal. Wondered why this wasn't also evident on the passenger side.
We just had a recent run of weather with temps down in the teens this past week and I thought I noticed a bit of rattling in the dash of mine, which has since disappeared. Might have simply been the plastics contracting due to the cold. As I was looking, I became aware of the inserted styrofoam piece.
Thanks for any observations you can offer. Love this forum and really have enjoyed this great little car.

Just had my dashboard and air bag replaced on my FIT
I had the foam sticking up on drivers side plus a very bad rattle in center of dash. Shop had car ten days while they replaced the dashboard and airbag module. They showed me the old dash. The foam runs the length of the dash and shows the most where the cut out for the VIN # is. On mine the foam was torn at the very end on the drivers side so that is why it was sticking up. The air bag module was causing the airbag cover on the dash to stick up so they had to replace that as well. My worst rattle was harder bumps. The airbag wiring harness was loose so that caused that one. They also improved the general light squeaks and rattles by tightening down the dash better while reinstalling. They took ten days because they had to keep ordering different pieces and waiting for overnight shipments. Overall they got the dash much quieter. I haven't seen what they settled with Honda on total hours but the mechanic working on it is a friend of mine and I think they ended up at 12-16 hours warranty work. If it is like mine was and has a continual, annoying creak, might consider having it worked over under warranty.
Dash Noise
I bought my FIT in September of 2006. On February 23, 2007 I finally got my car into the dealer because the entire dashboard was creaking and rattling and basically driving me crazy.
The dealer initially said they were able to duplicate the noise early in the morning but once the day warmed up ( I live in Connecticut) the noise went away. They called me and informed me that no action was taken and I could come pick up the car.
Well, I picked up the car and quicky drove it around the block so I could confirm the noise. I drove back to the dealer and had the service manager come out and drive around the block with me. He definitely heard the noise and apoligized for it not being properly fixed.
In a nutshell they spent two days tearing things down and here's the documented fix: "Mileage 19,237. Dash has multiple creaks and rattles @ base of windshield and aroun the lower "A" pillar trip area and around the instrument visor area. Contacted Honda tech-line. Tech-line had no info in database on this issue. Removed instrument visor and guages and road tested. Still hear several noises @ base of windshield area. Removed entire dashboard assy and found no EPT foam on underside of dash panel @ firewall area. Also found two vent ducts on t he drivers side that were conacting each other creating creak type noise. Installed a strip of EPT foam between ducts, installed EPT foam along the entire firewall area over sound deadening foam and also put EPT foam on underside of dash panel and insulated dash board locating pins as they were also a source of noise. Reinstalled dashboard assy, installed wool felt around instrument panel bezel and around instrument visor assy. Also applied wool felt to base of the "A" pillar trim panels. Roadtested again...dash area silent."
My dash made a ton of noise, especially when it was in the 20's outside. Since the fix it is silent and a joy to drive again. Just wanted to give folks a heads up in the event you are experiencing a similar problem.
Cheers,
Holmes

Back in for dashboard #2.
After the Honda dealer taking ten days to fix my BAD and loud dashboard noises, we had to go back twice to get a misaligned steering wheel corrected and the heater/defroster replaced as it started getting bound up and wouldn't switch from heat to defrost. In the process of them taking the radio/heater faceplate off, the they gouged up the edge of the dashboard where it meets the faceplate. It was like they just stabbed a screwdriver between the two parts and pried it loose.
That was a few days ago. I called them and offered them a choice of replacing the whole dashboard, as it is all one piece, or write me a check. They said they will replace the dashboard. Another 12 hours labor or more and a rental car but it is their money.
And if the thing ever starts making bad noises again before warranty is up they can just keep on doing it. I get 24 city and 29 highway with my auto trans and Honda says that is acceptable. I have a warranty so if anything is not right then I will keep taking it back over and over and I believe that is acceptable also.
Actually, this will be the third dashboard installed counting the one that it came with.
