Air intake question

I have looked closer to the design and functions of my car. And found something in the engine bay that I could not figuring out.
What is the function of the "bulb" on the air-intake in front of the battery and to the right of the air-filter box?
It is right on top of the tube leading into the airfilter.

IDK, but i believe it is to baffle sound. many stock intakes have a lot of sound-preventing properties, so that'd be my first guess.

i'ma go wtih the resonator answer. most stock intakes have odd chambers in them, which is why they are so bulky.
