Someone had posted that when leaving the car in 5th gear, and coasting, that the fuel feed actually cut out, when the RPMs were over something like 1500, with 0 gas used. I know that old M-Benz diesels used to do that, but how are people getting this info, regarding the Fit? From my SGii, I'm not seeing any evidence of that at all, either in MPG or GPH readings. ???

Oh, yeah, it cuts the fuel when you're at closed throttle coasting. You can see this when you're using SG2 in the instantaneous MPG mode, and the MPG estimate will go to 9999 or something like that. You can see evidence of it in the continuous MPG mode by watching the estimate increase rapidly as you coast. You can feel the ECM start fueling again at around 1000rpm if you coast down that far.

I'd have to go along with that. One might be able to get infinity MPG if they could keep it up throughout the life of the car. Resale value might be pretty good as well. It will, however, cut into the fun quotient usually associated with driving.

I'm going to discusss another ECO related topic if that's OK. I saw today a sticker on QuikTrip's pumps that said their gas contains up to 10% ethanol. QTs listed as a "top tier" gas provider which SUPPOSEDLY means they provide excellent gas that car manufacturers approve of. I walked in and asked SINCE WHEN has 10% ethanol been in the gas. They informed me that if they kept the percentage under 10% then they never HAD to tell the customer. Does ethanol content effect MPGs, HELL YES it does. I'd like input as to whether this policy is nationwide (I don't just mean QT, screw them!) or just in Missouri. Any input would be appreciatted!

We've had the 10% ethanol down here for at least 2 years now. It sucks for mileage and it also messes up your gas tank eventually - it can hold moisture in the tank, I think. I had to replace the EGR valve on my Camry last week, and I attribute that to ethanol. I know my Camry could get better mileage if we didn't have that crappy corn syrup in our gas.

I'm just pissed that they (QT) didn't tell me. Everyone faces decisions as if their two hands are a set of scales in front of them. "WEIGH your options" literally. Happens everyday! QT was on the list of "top tier" (USED to mean something now the term will be DRIPPING with sarcasm) gas providers. I know the Fit could do better with REAL gas but how can I be sure? Get out my chemistry set at the station? Taste some? Move to Mexico? I also believe maintenance issues will arise with the continued use of ethanol. It DOES hold water! I THOUGHT that I had carefully considered these issues and minimized the risks. I want vendors to tell me! The problem may well be with the state I call home. I hope these rules aren't federal. Sorry Rant over. Do I have to make my own gas? WHAT? A still in the backyard? I might as well drink my products and stay at home!!!!

Another good site to keep gas mileage records is gasprices.com. You end up registering for your own State. I have not entered all of mine for this year, but I just wanted to test the results and see how they look here.

Now I know....it looks terrible, and does not show the results wanted. It will also graph the results...maybe I will try that later.

I have just realized that most...or many...of us are using E10, maybe without knowing it. How many people are aware that 10% of your gas is actually ethanol?

We don't have a choice in Minnesota. But I was aware of what I was buying. It is a crummy setup where you don't have the choice of what to purchase...and if the fuel economy is 10% lower, than that defeats the argument that it reduces oil dependence. People will just need that much more gas to get from A to B.

MPR: Do we buy ethanol (in Minnesota) because we have to?

I thought I was doing good at 360miles at half a tank but I only filled up to the first click. From my calculations and past experience I should get in the range of 72-66mpg this time.
Wish me luck!

Price of gasoline

Hey FitFreakers,

I notice as the price of gasoline has gone down in recent weeks (ignore the hurricane zones, where they are being ripped off), that fewer people on this site are actually talking about good gas mileage. My town here in NM does not have the cheapest gas (right now it is 3.659), but in Albuquerque I see it can be purchased for 3.479.

I admit I would like to join the 500 club, but I don't do enough long trips in my Fit to qualify. I still expect to get a 45 mpg tankful, but I need cooler weather and some time to accomplish that.

Still, great to see you guys posting your super accomplishments with 50 and 60 mpg tankfuls. i believe we all love our Fits!

1. 70mph= 37mpg
2. 80mph= 34mpg

In for the Record:

607.0miles
8.6gallons used

= 70.5mpg

P&G was 45-30mph on the local hwy and 52-45mph on the interstate. I did fill up at a different pump so there is likely some variation.

I am really done driving that slow.

I filled up early meaning the gas light did NOT come on because I did not want my tank ruined today. I have to drive the Directors wife around for lunch and it would kill the mpg.

Now, I just need to make a grill block, WAI and FAS switch.

Shawn,

I'm wondering how much of this from the 1st click cut off fill this time? Your last log was 10 gal and 54mpg. Remember that 3 to 4 gals more.

At some point when we come off that fill deal we are doing you will have unreal FE tank
