I have Blizzak's on my wife's MINI & DWS06's on my GTI. The MINI will run circles around the GTI in snow & slush. I don't understand why you are having the opposite experience?

Did I read that there are two versions of the Blizzak's? Maybe you two are on different versions?

Yes there are different flavors of Blizzak tire. We have the WS70 version that is not what is currently on offer. They are a studless snow tire not a performance version.

The Conti DWS06 is an all season tire & being a large size at 225 width doesn't work as well at least in my experience. Maybe it is the narrow 195 size of the Blizzak that is making the difference.

Ken the Blizzak is a directional tire, are they mounted correctly? A friend of mine did that with his.

There's a solid chance.

Knowing me, I'll do something totally out of left field that makes no sense, but for now, CTR is #1, Avalon #2, S3 #3, Civic Si #4, Leaf #5, Bolt #6, FRS/BRZ #7

My guess is I don't buy any of them

I have WS80 on mine & didn't like them at all. One of my best friends had WS60 on his GD & didn't like them at all. I had Goodyear snows on my ex-wife's GD & liked them a lot, my friend has cheapo general snows on his current FF daily & is a huge fan.

Maybe I just have hipster tastes in snow tires or something.

ash - that is like asking me if i wipe my arse after taking a dump. of course the tires are mounted correctly!~ . haha but yah that would make a huge difference if mounted backwards.

ws60 did fine for me. might be the awd making me spoiled.

so another 2F morning.. im now use to this temp and dont care too much. wish the snow and salt would go away though. we're expected to get like upper 30's by weekend and i am hoping to at least wash the salt off the GTI and Fit before it gets clobbered by snow again next week.

i want to make sure my GTI's paint is not failing on the hatch where the metal meets the bottom of the rear glass. that's where most contaminants collect on this car and im guessing probably where paint will begin to fail first from salt.

anyway, have a great wednesday everyone! half way there~

Ken- I'd never ask you such a thing, but it would be good to know before shaking hands with you. ;-)

We all have our opinions. I'd be open to testing out some WS80's to give you my honest opinion compared to our WS70's. PM me for my address so Tire Rack can get them shipped out to me. ;-)

I fixed your list Mike.

What are these Winter tires you guys keep talking about? You mean you don't run Summer tires or all seasons all year? *insert snobby SoCal sarcasm here*

You haven't lived until you've thrown your summer tired Miata into your favorite corner at 15 degrees F. Big fun! Been there done that, never again.

Heh, I like a nice comfy car. The S2000 is going to get more & more singularly focused and at the moment that is my comfortable car...so something super smooth would be lovely.

And the pre-heating capability of an EV in the winter sounds really, really excellent.

Touche! You definitely got me there bud!

The 'boss' at home said some craziness this weekend. She was talking about how she wants her 'new' car this year. She really is aiming for my Aunts 2010 328i convertible (only 40k miles on it), white with red leather. Thing is immaculate and we have first dibs should my Aunt (same Aunt I got the Miata from) decides to sell. Or she wants the Lexus IS350.

She said if she gets either of those she wants to keep her elantra as the "beater" that she uses to go to the barn to ride her horse and doesn't like the idea of having 4 cars so there would be no reason to keep the Miata. Maybe sell both Miata and Elantra for a SUV/Truck for offroading/camping trips/home depot runs. I scoffed at the thought, said we'd discuss that when the time comes.

wow horseback riding huh? cool. now that is an expensive hobby too.

so i’m in a benz today. i’m not liking it much. it’s a fully loaded c class awd. it drives fine in sport and sport+ modes but mang regular AT sucks. once DSG, can’t go back. even in AT mode in temporary manual paddle shift, the DSG is so much smarter.

yeah, shes been riding since she was a kid. Recently (2-3 years ago) BOUGHT a horse...horse wasn't expensive...its the monthly barn fee that adds up. It's a car payment kinda money.

Yeah, have never driven a benz so cant comment. But most autos are a bore for me even with paddles.
