Just wanted to say "HI"

This is my first post here as I just picked up an '08 SSM Fit this past Tuesday. My wife and friends couldn't believe it as I've been driving Volkswagen's for 19 years. I traded in an '06 VW Rabbit for the Fit so it is a bit of an adjustment going from a German to Japanese car.

I really like the Fit though, still trying to figure out my shifting technique. I always seem to want to shift from 1st to 2nd before I push the clutch in all the way. The trans is very smooth whereas the VW trans had a notchy feel to it. I wanted another 4 door car as I have a 3 year old daughter and wanted a car with better mpg than the Rabbit's 5cyl.

I always say I'm not going to touch the car, mod wise but I can't stand the stock ride height so that'll be addressed in the spring along with a new wheel/tire set up. The way the rear wheels sit so far in the fender well bugs me so the new wheels will be a tad wider with a slightly lower offset.

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say "Hi" and let you know you guys have a great site here!

Congrats!!!

yeah the stock height is rather nose bleedish...but
It does make it look (at least to me) athletic and light on its toes!

Will try to do this coming weekend. I'm going to try and give it a quick detailing to give it some protection from old man winter. It needs clay barred pretty bad, certain areas of the car feel nasty.

oh snap! i recognize your username from the "other site" because i was (and still am) a vw guy. i admired your white mk1 from way back, and was sad when you let it go. welcome over here. i'm still new here too, just picked up my 08 fit 3 weeks ago and have been browsing this board over the past few days learning about the fit to keep from posting too many noob posts

i still have a red mk1 GTI to have fun with but i needed a new car similar to you, 4 door, fuel efficient, and room for a baby seat since there's one on the way!

welcome again!

Wow, you remember the white bunny, that's cool. Talk about kicking myself in the ass after selling that car.....oh well. I sold it right before my daughter was born, the car just sat in the garage all the time and I was driving an old MKII Golf at the time.....memories!

I just want to mention 1-->2 is different than any other upshift, because the RPMs must drop 50% so it rev matches. Try releasing the clutch later when entering 2nd gear from first. I hope this helps. Enjoy this car!

A while ago there was a thread on VW guys switching to the fit. One guy drove VWs all his life, and hated the current rabbit feeling it's not the same rabbit/golf as in the old days, and that the fit was more like a rabbit/golf. That thread a lot of people also converted from VW's to and the fit was their first non-VW.

Yeah, I flipped from over a decade of VW driving too. The Fit was the most similar in feel out of all the Hondas I test drove. It seems to have everything I loved about the VWs I drove, and it appears to be more reliable. Also the style of the body and the way everything looks makes me think of the good parts of VW.

Congrats on the new Fit, and look forward to hearing more.
