My Fit A/T is "shifty" ... normal?
I bought a 2008 Fit with the auto. I know it has this "drive by wire" system on it, but, I'm used to my 03 Toyota Tacoma. This car shifts ALL the time. Always looking for the best gearing. I touch the pedal...it shifts...
My 08 Base A/T is extremely 'shifty' too. I'm getting ready to try manual shifting to see if I like the response better or if the engine lugs too much trying to keep the rpm low. I don't mind a little hunting but it seems to shift into the higher power/lower mpg range more often than I like.
The lower highway gearing on the A/T is great though. I hit 75 with the needle below the 3K rpm mark. If I drove 80, it would likely hover right at 3K. The M/T folks on the forum say they hit 4K at 80.

i bet your tacoma was no gas miser though right?
this is just your cars way of staying in the optimal powerband without sacrificing mpg. otherwise you would have an even slower and less efficient fit.

My solution is to shift 'manually' using the paddle shifters. That let me improve mpg from 29 to 31 mpg. Just don't let rpm get under 1500.
But I don't think M. Schumaker has anything to worry about.
Hope that helps. Cheers.

i'm j/k. but generally shifting while turning is a no no, it's how you lose control at high speed corning
