I WIN!!! Fit beat Yaris to 40mpg!!
I got my Fit last October. My husband, Joe, got his Yaris in January. Every day driving yields @32/33mpg for my Fit, 38/39mpg for Joe's Yaris. He has yet to hit 40. We drove the Yaris to Durham, NC (from Tampa) a month ago - and still he couldn't hit it. He bought a scan gauge and now drives conservatively (sucker)
and STILL hasn't reached that goal. The Fit on the other hand, has never even come close to 40. But we drove up to Durham again this past weekend and I joked that I'd hit 40 first. A couple tanks were 37 and 38mpg - but no 40. And THEN.....da da dum.........40.25mpg!! WooHoo!!
And what did Joe say? Nothing. He flipped me off
Loser!!
And for the record, that was all hwy travel except for probably 2 quick stops, 70/75mph (cruise control) with the AC on low. Suhweet.

I think he'll end up the winner in the long run though. My Yaris's engine didn't even get good and broken in til I hit 23,000 miles. Then the mileage took off. I drive 40/60 city/hiway and I average about 37-42mpg now. I could get even more but I drive like a jackass with his pants on fire.
The Fit looks better!
My bosses boss asked me about my Fit the other day and he kept bringing up gas mileage. I would mention all the cool things that we all know about the Fit but he only wanted to talk about mileage. So I told him that I didn't buy the Fit for the mileage. He was shocked! Sure, mileage was important, I told him, but not the end all of my decision. I said there are other cars that get better mileage, like the Yaris and Versa and some Kias. (We both think the Versa is, ah, not attractive.)
But the Fit makes me smile when I walk up to it, when I see it in the driveway. To me, that's every bit as important as mileage.

no way the versa gets better mpg that thing has a 1.8l engine i think, plus its way heavier than the fit.
I did too just this weekend driving from some town 30 miles south of Fredricksbug, Va to Carnesville, Ga taking 95 & 85. But I was ahppy witht he results. about 40.65. Kept it at the speed limit with cruise control the whole time.
We men hate to lose to the wife. LOL!

Joe will be happy to hear that. I think he's still around 5000 miles and has hit 40 a few times now. This coming weekend we'll be taking both cars up to Durham again (hauling son's stuff back home) and we figure we'll need all three cars for cargo. The Subaru Outback was stuffed when we took him up. (Not looking forward to the drive without another driver).

Glad to hear that the Fit beat the Yaris - we knew you and the Fit could do it! Now don't make your husband too mad or he might not help out with any future mods. Hope you have a safe trip and get back soon.

I know some Yaris could hit the 50+MPG range on their ScanGauge 2s...
I don't know, maybe your friend sucks at driving ECO. I have hit 45MPG on my stock 03 Corolla AT at 44K miles and 35.6MPG on my 2007 MT tC when it has 1,500miles with new oil change to Royal Purple 0W20 and K&N oil and air filter.
Try raising the wheels PSI by 10%, maybe a light 14" Kosei wheel, trailing trucks at 55MPH (boring, but it saves you some considerable gas money.) and also lower your car 2" on the OE alignment might probably get you 5-10 more MPG on scangauge2.
