It takes some getting used to when it comes to conservation in the Fit unlike other cars. You might think you are being conservative, but you are far from it. Start by staying in right lanes on the fwy and use drafting as much as you can as well as cruise control! From a standing start let the speed build up slowly by means of whatever little torque it has! Do not rush it. Patience is a virtue(unless somebody runs you over!).

I am a lead foot and first lane driver even in a Fit. I get 25-27mpg in the city and up to 35mpg on the fwy. Right on the money by EPA standards. Conditions permitting I am never below 75mph. I adopted motorcycle rider mentality thanks to my CRX - better to be passing than to be passed for safety. The way I look at it, in something else with just a tad larger engine I would be in 18mpg city / 25-28 fwy!

BTW, A/T maybe sucks in the city vs. a manual, but on fwy taller final gearing has to be getting better mpg than manual as long as you keep them both under 70mph!
I get my kicks by blowing past others and still getting mid 30 mpg!

 

MT vs AT has everything to do with the matter. With AT you will always be shifting gears not at your own will. The AT is good at giving power when need be, and the computer is the one calling the shots. i know this because i had an AT and now i have an MT. Now that i have an MT i get better gas mileage, better control, and more power. I couldnt be happier

 

I finally got 150 miles off half my tank. I've been using only cosco gas for the last month and a half, filling up each week. I'm at 1,400 miles on my car. I've been averaging below 25 mpg for the past couple of tanks. I hope it goes up some more. But I think something weird is going on. It seems like I'm getting 23 on city, but 36 on highway. I drove 50/50 on this tank and got about 30 mpg.

 

wait until after your first oil change at 5,000 miles...then it should get better after that

 

why would that affect it? I've been a proffesional mechanic and engine buider in the past and I cant see how that would affect that radical of gas consumption on a modern engine. Especially when most cars are getting high MPG right out of the box. Could you elaborate please?

I think is has to do with driving habits and the type of daily commute you drive. AT/MT, Oil changes and miles on the car do not make as much of a difference as driving habits. I and several friends that have gone from 75 mph + truck drivers to old lady semi truck drafting light foots. I think the Fit will give you the high mileage but you have to work it there is an on board computer glitch that is not running the engine as it should be.

I know the fact I am getting the low end of the mpg range is just because of the type of driving. I have been babying the throttle, but the fact that my 15 mile commite consists of just getting up the speed and then the next traffic light turns red. Repeat that probably a good 15 times to and from work. It takes me 45 minutes to travel 15 miles, thats why I get the mpg that I do.

 

because i heard that the oil that is put in at the assembly factory contains ingredients that help lubricate the engine and protect the engine during it's break in period..

 

the lowest gas milage ive ever gotten was 28 cuz i was doggin it allll around town cuz i was feelin frisky and racing evos and 12 sec cars for a good laugh lol... other then that i get about 32 city 42 hwy

 

I have 1300 miles on my car now. Its gets 35mpg on 70mph with cruise.
I got 26 mpg when beating on it
I got 37 on 2 lane country roads using the roller coaster style driving.
and 29-31 normal short in town commute

The pumps around here say 1 of 2 things:
Gas contains 10% ethenol
or
May contain upto 10%

 

Agreed. My last three cars, I got better than the EPA's mpg rating. Lighten up that right foot!

 

when accelerating from a complete stop, i start slow...making sure the rpm doesn't go above 3,000 rpm before changing gears (with the paddle shifters on the Fit Sport automatic) also when slowing down, i take my foot of the accelerator and use the engine to help slow down before applying brakes..
