Costco gas was $4.29, which seems a lot cheaper than what you all are paying..but cost me $38 for almost 9 gallons. what the heck! it's just..insane, but yeah i work about 7 miles from work..i SUPPOSE i could ride a bike or take the bus, but i probably wouldn't do that until it costs me $50+ to fill her up.

I live in Fremont (SF Bay Area) and paid $4.41 this past Friday night. With crude oil having surged to a record $139 Friday I'm sure gas will be at around $4.55 to $4.60 by the end of next week. The Quikstop that I usually go to went up $.06 a gal everyday last week. Funny how it never goes down that quickly. This system we have here in the U.S. is so freakin rigged it's ridiculous. Crude oil on the NYMEX shot up over $5 a barrel on Thursday and then SHOT UP a whopping $11 a barrel on Friday (biggest one day gain ever). This huge run up, they say, was sparked by a few things: the ECB (European Central Bank) chairman hinted at raising short term interest rates which would in turn increase the value of the Euro and decrease the value of the dollar (crude oil is traded in dollars), an Israeli official stated that an attack on suspected Iranian nuclear sites would be "unavoidable", and an investment banker stated that crude oil would hit $150 a barrel by July 4th. As you can see a whole lot of things converged Thursday night into Friday that drove crude oil to stratospheric levels. At the rate we're going gas, at least here in the Bay area, will hit $5 a gal by July 4th if not sooner and could hit $6 a gal by Labor Day. Some experts have stated that once the Beijing Summer Olympics come to an end in mid August that oil prices should come down, but who knows. I think more outrage needs to be demonstated not only here in the U.S. but around the world. We the people need to dramatically ratchet up the pressure on our government to take some action NOW! High oil prices affect nearly everything that we do, from pump prices to food prices to car prices. Another BIG problem on the horizon is this: if we or Israel or both strike Iran all bets are off. Crude oil could hit $300 to $400 a barrel or more...this translates to around $9.50 to $10 a gal for gas. This will most likely collapse the U.S. economy as well as the global economy. The only thing that I think could happen to alter this projection would be if the SEC steps in and temporarily puts on hold trading of crude oil futures on the NYMEX.
