New Fit, First Fishing Trip

Tried out my 800 mile old Fit with a new Yakima rack, 40 lb kayak on top and 200 lbs of gear, beer, and firewood inside. Used the tall mode seat arrangement with most of the heavy stuff in there. The car did really well and I got 33 mpg with 40% city and 60% highway at 65 mph. This car is gonna work long term.

Was worried about rubbing as I got 15x6.5x40 Konig rims and 195x55 Yokohama S Drives two weeks ago. I had shaved back the plastic back bumper cover mounting plate around the bolt away from the outside edge and that worked even with all the weight in/on the car.

I left the fish in the water on this trip but will be back next full moon.

Have fun, avoid the rest

The main reason I opted to buy a Fit instead of a Civic is that I go fishing a lot.

My Fit is the best car for going fishing I've ever had. Glad to know the rack and kayak setup worked OK.

Thanks it worked great and held all my gear. In the winter or bad weather I can sleep in the car if need be. Really smart use of space, I'm sold.

I take naps in mine also when the fishing action slows around noon. Window visors work great then because it looks like the windows are closed all the way but I still get plenty of air coming in and it doesn't get hot inside.
