Diehard Toyota fan buys first Honda

....And I couldn't be happier! I picked up my 08' SSM Sport 5spd this week, can't wait to break it in and have fun. I tried really hard to like an offering from Toyota more but the Fit just blew them away. The Yaris is nice, but the hideous center gauges killed that option. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get one, had to put down a deposit and wait for 2.5 weeks. Most of the Fits available in this area were black base models, and I swore that I wouldn't own another black car in Texas.

I haven't turned my back on Toyota as my play car is a 95' Mr2 and my wife drives my old IS300, but I never thought I would own a Honda. The fit is great, and I can't wait to start brewing ideas for parts to make it better.

Another fellow convert here!

I was always a Toyota girl, too - never thought I'd own anything but a Toyota.

I learned to drive in a 1980 Toyota Tercel, and drove that thing until a little fender bender in 1997. I replaced the Tercel with a 1996 RAV4 which I still have (and plan to drive forever.)

When my husband and I got married a few years ago, we became a 2-car family - the RAV4 and a 1995 Ford Aspire. We'd been mulling over a replacement for the Aspire and were leaning towards a Scion XD.

The week before last, another driver hit me in the Ford, so our search for a new car kicked into high gear.

Off we went to a Honda dealership, "just to look" and test drive the Fit. Several hours later, off we went in our new car - the first Honda for both of us.

We love it so much! Sometimes we just want to go out and sit in it and admire it.

toyata!

I was a diehard Toyota fan as well. I think I'm still an inactive member of some Yaris forums. In my Yaris research, however, this OTHER car (the Fit) kept appearing in the conversation. After weighing them both the choice was clear and I've no regrets whatsoever. No matter what other issues occur (economy, politics job etc.) the Fit is the most faithful, obedient and flexible servant one could ask for.

I came from a 1991 Toyota MR2, the handling profiles were similar, except the Fit has way less power, but it's ok I enjoy all the extra room.

I am (was) also a diehard Toyota fan, I've owned 6 of them I believe (including one Scion)

This is my first Honda though. I was sure I was going to go with a Scion xD or a Toyota Yaris. All I had to do was test drive all three and it made my decision easy. One one of those three made me really smile when I drove it.

I just saw in an article that the Fit may have the highest residual value after three years of ANY car measured. Anybody else think that Honda may have underpriced this fun to drive gem?

Maybe not underpriced, but I didn't have any problem with paying MSRP. I wanted that car baaad. After almost 5K miles, I don't have a single negative thing to say about my Fit Sport manual. It's a blast to drive, fun to wash/wax and simply look at, and the recipient of many, many compliments from my friends and from total strangers in parking lots, gas stations, etc.

Congrats on your choice, and I predict you'll really love the car. I semi-looked at the Yaris (drove one as a rental for two weeks), and while the center gauges didn't bother me, the space utilization wasn't nearly as good as the Fit's and the appearance wasn't either.

Among subcompacts, the Fit wins hands down.

oh man the yaris's dash is atrocious. haha my bro's gf has one, its ok if you want basic transportation. the fit is just a nicer all around car. theres less cargo room in the yaris and the back seat is really uncomfortable. there's not much headroom and the headrests are a pain. the fit is the coolest economy car you can buy

im actually pretty sure a smart car with a turbo gsxr1100 engine in it is the coolest economy car you can buy. but im not to sure if it is still considered an economy car at that point.

fits have gone up in value due to gas prices. the honda lot that is down the street from my house has sold four used fit sports for over 20k in the past month. one of them had 9k miles on it and it sold for something like 22k.

this car is definitely one that we are all lucky to have gotten our hands on. with gas prices the way they are people are starting to drool overs cars like the fit and frown upon corvettes and mustangs.
