Thanks for your analysis Netgh. I am learning more and more about ethanol, and it seems to be a quick remedy to reduce foreign oil. I currently own a flex fuel truck (Chevy S-10).

I actually have some speculative investments in a few ethanol producers.

It doesn't sound like the Fit can run E85?

Unfortunately, the Fit probably won't be able to run as a flexible-fuel vehicle, precluding E-85. I hear that there are conversion kits out there that will allow a non-certified car to run E-85, but I don't know much about them. What I'd probably bet is that you'd have a difficult time finding a conversion kit that would work for the Fit, but you never know.

And I agree, I really think ethanol, in general, offers a great alternative to the oil problem. There is significant investment potential for smart buyers. What puzzles me is why the bureaucrats in Washington can't figure this one out. It buoys American farmers who've had a lot of difficult years, and it reduces that dependence on foreign oil we always hear about. I guess so long as big oil has a grip on Congress and the president there won't be a lot of change.

Not this year, not next year, not in two years or even five. Blazer, I hate to confess that I am a half-empty glass type, but people have been talking about alternatives since the first oil crisis in the seventies. That was over thirty years ago, and still, there really are no alternatives. Since Eisenhower built the interstates and killed the railroads at the behest of the oil and rubber companies, we have been blissfully motoring to our own demise. The next time you go to a shopping mall, look at the number of SUV's and tell me that Americans care about gas mileage. I know you and I, and most of the people on this forum do, but that really doesn't matter. We appear to be the enlightened few amongst.

I am going to buy the Fit. That statement might show I am less enlightened than some, but the mileage is good enough for when I need a car, and Honda does make a great product. When I am commuting, or going anywhere else that doesn't require me to carry more than a backpack of stuff, weather permitting, I am taking the motorcycle.
