1.5Vtec or 1.5I-DSI? pls help
1.5Vtec or 1.5I-DSI? pls help
newbie here..
just got my new "supposedly" 1.5 vtec jazz as i ordered. when i about to drive home the car, i checked the engine and found out I-DSI logo on top. looking at the back door, there is a vtec emblem. the dealer was also confused because on their record it's vtec. which is which? any means to positively identify the engine aside from the logo? i want to prove to myself what type of engine i got with your help of course.
additional info.. i bought the car here in qatar just recently and transmission is plain automatic, not the CVT type.
thanks..

thanks for the immediate response..
i researched over the internet that indeed there are 1.5i-DSI model as well as vtec. both vtec and i-DSI model engine number starts with this L15A1 series. My engine no. is L15A15000003, made in japan and manufactured jan 2006. I'm thinking of removing the cover and check if there are two spark plugs that would indicate that is i-DSI. am i correct on this approach? Or is there another way of knowing the diffrence by visual inspection alone.
thanks again guys.

Timemaster,
Taking off the manifold cover will show if you have the I-DSI engine. If you do have 8 spark plugs then yes you do have the I-DSI engine. If you have only 4 spark plugs then you have a V-tec engine with the wrong manifold cover.
In any case the 1.5L I-DSI is not a bad engine 90Hp, 97ft/lbs torque...plus it has better fuel economy than the v-tec. Just less performance on the top end.
Out of curiosity where was your Jazz imported from?
JDMGD3, your right you won't see a 1.5L I-DSI Fit in Japanese brochures. The 1.5L I-DSI is offered in the Fit Aria.

my car is a 1.5vtec non CVT automatic as there are only four spark plugs and has the small vtec solenoid. your suggestions bros were of great help. only the engine cover label was wrong and the dealer will replace it.
im now in the process of breaking in the engine, not going past 80 kph and steady acceleration 2200 rpm max. im planning to do this until 1k service. the way the car is responding at current running condition, i am very much satisfied.
thanks again..
