Fold-back side mirrors?

Fold-back side mirrors?

I don't think this has been covered.... Does the Fit have folding side mirrors? My wife or I typically need this feature several times a year getting in/out of the garage.....

Yes. They're big, and still kinda stick out, but they do fold.

Awesome. I'm sure my wife and I would have torn off a few mirrors in the past without the folding option....

you can get the JDM power folding mirrors, which would not only be functional but have a wicked JDM Bling appeal. the only problem is that wiring them is extremely hard.

Thank goodness they do!

My friend has a Focus and she's torn the mirror off her driver side door twice. Smacked a sidewall the first time. Bumped a trash can at low speeds another time. Ridiculous that it just comes off so easily.

I met my wife at a car show. She puts up with my car stuff, and wants to learn.

I'm so happy I'm no longer with the type of girl that had a hissy fit each time I washed my car in high school.

Are they electric folding? For some reason I thought they were supposed to be, but when I test drove one I couldn't find any means of folding them from the inside.

They do fold here is a picture of the mirror.

As you will see in the picture it rotates at the more horizontal of the two gaps. At this exact momnet I cannot measure the car to see how much width it actually saves.

The UK and JDM models have electric power folding mirrors that also have turn signals. We get no turn signals, and the folding is done manually here in the US.

Thanks for the pic, drknife.

What's the advantage to power folding mirrors? Is that because garages or parking spaces are so tight, the mirrors have to be retracted? I'm seriously clueless on the reason for this....

You live in Iowa. So I dont think you would understand city life, or narrow streets in Europe/Japan.

Sheesh corey415, could you be any more patronising?

Hondyboy, you gueesed correctly. If you are parked in a narrow city street it's a good idea to fold your mirrors so that passing cars and cyclists don't clip them as they go past. Most people can avoid parked cars pretty effectively but the mirrors don't always "register". Also if you live in an early century house (like the San Francisco painted ladies) the garage is really more of a "carriage" size so you might very well need to fold the mirrors to get in.

How hard? Do you have any links to install directions? I would definitely like to ateempt this.

frossie is correct. Some of the soi's (alleyways that function as minor thoroughfares) in Bangkok are barely wide enough for two lanes of traffic. A couple of Mercedes or other larger cars not only need to fold their mirrors, but also might need slab some grease on the sides of the cars just to squeeze through. Virtually all cars have power folding mirrors. It's a necessity, not just cool.

ha - try living in my 'hood. my street is so narrow that if my neighbor parks her stupid Ford Expedition I have to scrape the curb with the tires on the Camry. Yeah - we have gone through a few mirrors. I used to live on a one-way sized two-way street on a hill - I actually went through four mirrors in one year at $50/each.

AJ Pwr Jr was attempting to install a set of the RHD JDM LED mirrors.

I know he has them on his car, but not sure if they are wired up or not!
