The 8 = Canadian Market.

The last 5 VIN numbers start from 00000 for USA and Canada. They aren't mixed together.

Sorry, in the US, the 11th digit is the factory - "S"= Suzuka, Japan followed by the production number. Our production numbers are 6 digits long, looks like Canada gets 5 digit numbers.

Mine is 3052. It has a build date of 4/6/06. It arrive on the lot on 4/20/06. I'd say that's pretty fast.

My #2765 was built 3/10/06. Doesn't seem right that 287 cars were built in approx. 3 weeks. Thats a little over 13 a day. Honda will not meet demand at that rate.

Anybody know typical production numbers. Any idea why the build dates and VIN numbers would not indicate production levels?

Well - I don't have any documentation stating my 4/6/06 build date, but my dealer told me to expect it my the last week of April or the first week of May because he quoted the build date as 4/6/06. But it ended up getting here on April 20th, and I drove it home on April 22nd. Happy me!

There's a sticker in the door jam with the build month and year, not sure if it states the day.

Don't forget that they are building more than just the Fit on this assembly line, and also building Fits for Canada and other markets. They might spend a shift a week building US market Fits for all we know.

In addition to the sticker on the car, the documentation that the dealer uses to follow the progress of their order shows the cars build date. I believe that they are notified when the car is built, when it is shipped (on the boat), when it arrives in a US port, when it clears customs, when it boards a train and when it is on a delivery truck. At least that's about how it went as I followed mine.

I took a tour of the East Liberty plant a while back. They were building dark red 4-dr Civic LX's that day. They had built about 2200 that day, but that was working multiple shifts, I think.

Some plants do more than one car at a time, on multiple lines. I'm not sure what the capacity of each plant is, nor their target production.

Bear in mind that they have to have all the parts in place to build it with.

The suppliers build based on the projections, so - you can see that there is lead time on it depending on what they think is going to happen....
