The Fit is considered a Sub Compact, the 6 airbags, and the ultra low emissions makes it cheaper to insure than most other cars.

Going from a 12 year old Geo Prism, insurance went up $300/ year. Not bad.

You young guys rock, when I was 18 I had (back then this was allowed) 19/20 points on my license 1966, insurance then was cheap, I was under Daddy's Policy driving a 1957 Chevy with 327 CU IN/ Huerst Line Loc shifter. Now I'm 58 and a "Bumpa" (Grampa) But I LOVE the FIT. I run an Airport Shuttle business, and I'm buying 3 for the MPG, but not until the fad wears off ,which should be 2010)and they are available. Love the forums, everyone in them is decent, I'm spending way to much time here.
LOVE the stories about the FIT, and bear with me, this is my first Forum experience.

I’ll be paying 1356$ per year. That includes traveling in a high risk corridor (lots of deer and moose crossing the highway), travelling more than 50 kms one way to work, full replacement value for 2 years, $500 deductable, $2 million in liability, rental, 3 vehicles and 2 drivers discount, etc.

That’s about 15$ more per month than the 1992 Integra 4 door it replaces.

i was quoted $396 for 6 months i think. primary car for commute.
we also have an evolution and mini for pleasure totaling another $800.
do i get discount from state farm if i show them my college diplomat? i didn't know that will get me some more discounts... need to check on that when i get the car.
mini cooper is low on insurance, if you wonder, drive one and you will find one mini cooper can destroy 3 honda on a crash.... that's why it is so cheap on insurance. it really make driver feel safe in that little thing.

UGH! HELP! I'm a 31 year old female living in NJ. I have never had auto insurance before, as I've lived in the city throughout my 20's and just borrowed cars when visiting the suburbs. Very clean driving record (just one ticket for no turn on red). The quotes I am getting seem to be INSANE!!

6 month premium w/Metlife (who I hope to go with since the school I'll be working for in Sept has a group discount) - $1085!!!
6 month premium w/Allstate with 1k deductible - $1635!! with $750 deductible - $1760!!!

What is going on here? What's causing these rates to be so high? Is it because I've never had insurance before? Is it the "Fit" factor (haha) - when they don't have any record of that vehicle? I hate that I have to keep calling these damn companies...can't get an online quote cuz the Fit isn't an option when you pick your vehicle!

Anyone have a clue if I'm going about this the wrong way? What should I be asking for? Thanks!

Advice anyone? I'm so lost as to why the quotes I'm getting are absurd.

Insurance

Right or wrong, fair or unfair, at 19, a male, you are cursed by your peers. As a former financial planner and ins. specialist, I can only tell you that you are in a VERY high risk group. I am 60. You guys have about 100 accidents for each one that my age group has. Sorry, just the facts. Also the FIT is a small car (more personal injury and collision damage). On the plus side, it has all the safety ratings, it is a honda, and hopefully you drive an auto (not good for dragging). With a clean record, I hope you can get ins. for 400 per month, depending where you live. In rural Iowa or Sasketchewan, it might be less. Best of luck!! =)
