Fit n00b questions!
Fit n00b questions!
I know these questions may sound like common sence or make no sence at all but im sorry, i must ask. Im new to this new car thing, "if you never ask you'll never know"
so here it goes. afew questions i hope to get answered
2009 Honda Fit Sport M/T
1. Will modifiying my car VOID my warranty?
ex. if i get an aftermarket Intake system, and i bring in my car to a Honda dealership for an oil change or tire change over and they see the intake. will they automatically void my warntee by seeing it? same applys to aftermarket exhaust/ suspension.
i understand the warranty will be voided if damage is caused by an aftermarket part.
ex. MAP/MAF sensor is damged because of the aftermarket intake
2. My car is equiped with TPS (tire pressure sensors). the sensors are currently on my stock wheels. I have a set of aftermarket 17's i want to install. if i take my stock wheels off and install the 17s will this cause my TPS light to turn on?
Thanks in advance guys! (sorry for sounding like a n00b)

Hey - Aftermarket parts can void your warranty only if they can prove that your aftermarket parts damaged or altered something else on the car that has cease to function. They are not so bad about cold air intakes but exhaust can be a little more of a concern. Lots of guys will do the aftermarket parts and just take them off and replace with the stock parts if the car goes back to the dealership with any problems. The dealership just seems to like to blame any problems on aftermarket parts cuz that is so much easier than finding out what is really wrong. I have a 2007 Fit without the tire pressure valve so I can't help with that one. But I do know that a lot of people remove the sensors so they can do other wheels.

1. This would be covered by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Essentially what it does is prevent dealers from voiding your warranty for mods without a probable cause.
Say if your Fit has a malfunctioning TMPS sensor and you have an intake of some sort. The dealer can't void the warranty do to that intake because it didn't have anything to do with the malfunction. Now on the other hand, if you were to have say a turbo kit and blow your engine due to excess boost pressure, your warranty is long gone.
2. If you install the TMPS sensors on an aftermarket (or a non-TMPS designed) rim it will not set off the warning light in your gauge cluster and will continue to function so long as they were not damaged during re-installation. My Fit still has the factory supplied TMPS sensors in my aftermarket Konig Quiz rims and works just fine.

Thanks ^^ for #1. i wont let them void my warranty without a fight!
and for #2 did you install your OE TPMS on rims that where the same spec as stock wheels and tires?
would my TPMS light come on if i installed wheels without TPMS?

Wheel and tire specs don't really matter since the sensors work by comparing each wheel's rotating speed. However, the sensors will have to have the gaskets rebuilt and be snug in the hole were the valve stem goes through. Watch the video below to get a better idea.
YouTube - Episode #85 - Honda Fit TPMS Sensors in Older Wheels
As for the TPMS light, it will come on if you did not install the sensors in the rims. Its nothing really drastic though, its just a mandatory safety feature that US government requires for all cars in '08 to present day. A lot of people who had gotten new rims for their 08s and newer Fits either ignored the light or covered it with black tape after getting the rims.
