Crazy part is the explosion was in the wash bay. How in the heck does that happen? Only thing I can think of was he was smoking and using some flammable cleaner?

Possibly, some solvents are very flammable. Could've been a lot of vapor build up with the mist.

There was an episode of Mythbusters, where they made a normally small explosion create a giant fireball from a saw dust cloud.

That was aweful. Had to be someone mishandling solvents that caused the blast. Sorry to hear that someone had died.

Fuel air burst... they happen relatively often. It is a big concern in mines and grain silos.

Very sad about the fatality though.

Investigators have determined that the explosion that took the life of 33-year-old Daniel Martinez at Balise Honda Wednesday morning occurred when he used a disposable lighter to peer inside a 55-gallon drum of flammable cleaning solvent.

Balise said that Martinez was on a cell phone with his chemical supplier when he apparently used the lighter to determine the level of product inside the barrel.

Sad, but Darwin won.

sorry but i had to lol. which part of that idea made any sense to begin with? i'm sure a drum of that size and stature would have warning signs such as "NO OPEN FLAME!! EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE!!!" with cartoon flames and everything for the illiterate.

Reminds me of the time many years ago when...

...I thought it was a good idea to give the wood in the wood
burning stove at the cottage a good dose of Coleman fluid that
is used in their portable camping stoves.

Then I shut the door on the stove giving the fumes a chance
to build up, lite up a match, opened the door and approached
the wood when BOOM.

Knocked me back against the wall and singed my eyebrows and
thankfully no damage other than that.

Lesson learned and I realized afterwards how dumb it was.
