Handling in the Rain
I'm still in the "waiting for the right Fit to come in" mode, but I have been impressed with the ride and handling of the one I test drove (just my wife & myself: "here, take the keys and have a good time;" Ciocca Honda, Hershey, PA). The one thing I am unsure of is how the Fit handles in the rain; the previous small cars I have had were only so-so.
I'm not worried about snow, since I plan to swap over to Blizzaks in December.
Thanks,
CC

I live in Orlando, FL and have 3,500 mile on my Fit so far (alot of those mile have been in the rain). In my opinion, The Fit is great in the rain considering how light-weight the car is. The fog lights are great and the with rain-x, I don't even use the wipers.
I can only echo what the others have said, we got a ton of rain this last week or so, I have a 35 mile drive to work and between the time I left and getting to work we got 2" worth. I was at the speed limit most of the time and never once did it loose that sure footed feel I've grown accustomed to. I think it handles great in the wet. You just have to remember it is wet and adjust following distances etc accordingly. I love this car.
drove yesterday all day in rain. its very stable in rain, on the highway and specially around turns.
handling is not an issue with this car. i do find on hills it lacks power, but what it lacks in power it more than makes up in handling.

It handles just fine in the rain. I also use Rain-Ex and don't need the front wipers at any reasonable speed. Only complaint is the rear wiper - it is oriented for a right side drive car. For USA drivers, the clean section of the hatch window is behind the passenger rather than the driver.

of course the fit has nowhere near the acceleration of an impreza so you simply can't get the fit into the same kinds of situations as an impreza. maybe thats why it felt more "confidence inspiring" to you -- because the driving parameters were much narrower and limited.
Way! Actually my '97 Impeza wagon L model, AT, was a base model with 170k miles. Your correct, no comparison. But a test drive in both and the Fits' more fun. My buddy's got the STi version, wow! But I'd certainly loose my license with that beast.
We've had 6 months worth of rain here in New England since May 1 (that's a real figure, not an exaggeration), and it handles great.
Even been on the highway during a severe downpour and it just cruises right along.

I knew that this was a good forum from reading previous posts, but a great forum? Yes!!!
Thanks for the numerous, spot-on responses to my question: they have confirmed what I had hoped, that the Fit, out of the box, is a good overall driver. I know that I can improve special situations with additional equipment (thus the plans for the Blizzaks - a necessity for Winter driving, by the way), but I didn't want to have to change the base equipment immediately. Now I feel confident that I won't.

Picked mine up from the dealer last week and part of the interstate was closed off by the state patrol due to flooding. Fit did great. Been raining a ton here on the East Coast this week including today. No problems getting around in the car, as mentioned it handles excellently.
Handling is fine in the rain. We had an extended drought, which meant an oil slick on the highways when the rains finally began, and I had no problems. In Florida hitting brakes frequently on wet pavement is a favorite pastime, but the Fit stops on a dime. Only one problem -- I have a Storm Silver and I'm beginning to wonder if the color is hard to see in the rain, or if there are just a lot of idiots out on the road that don't check the blind spot before changing lanes. I've had a few close calls, mostly with big SUVs, and in virtually every case it happened during a rainstorm.
