I thought I'd find out the reasons why all our fellow fit freaks bought their Honda Fits. This would provide great insight for anyone who is thinking of buying a fit.

 

I don't have my Fit yet, but the number-one thing that got my attention was hearing over and over and reading in various places that it is fun to drive. That is what I wanted in a new car. But it had to have other good things too, to make it a smart buy...which the Fit has in abundance. Small, maneuverable, price, reliability, total cost of ownership, highly rated, good resale, etc. Oddly enough the carrying capacity is actually not something I need or was looking for, so that is just an extra that is along for the ride. But it might come in handy once in awhile.

Although an expert on cars is the last thing I am, IMO the Fit will be looked back on as a beloved classic, if it isn't already. In its own modest way, it is extraordinary...so why settle for ordinary?

I was looking for something more economical to own, both in monthly payment and in fuel cost. I did a pretty thorough search and test of cars on my list and this one was the most fun to drive, and honestly the best looking (subjective honestly).
If someone had told me 6 months ago that I'd be having a blast rowing the gears of a sub-150hp 5 door hatch I'd have kicked them in the shin and pissed on their shoes, yet here I am. I love the car honestly, I am saving over $120 a month in annual operating cost compared to the Mini Cooper S and I enjoy driving the car just as much.
One piece of advice though, get a manual tranny, for me it was a non-negotiable deal, being able to shift and completely control gear selection adds to the fun factor a good bit.

 

I went to the dealership intending to buy a Civic Si Coupe. I asked the sales lady out of curiousity if I could drive a Fit, just because I'd heard so much positive about them.

2 years later, I still can't stop grinning. Much more fun to drive than the Civic. And with 2 kids, much more practical. The back seat in that Civic was nonexistent.

MPG and the look of the Fit.
In 2008 I was in a 13mpg (city) Durango V8 4x4. And when gas passed 4.00 a gallon so did the Dodge (passed hands that is). I was looking @ all the sub-B class MPG cars of the day and when I saw the Fit & MPG ratings that was it. Then I found this site and she's never been the same> in a good way

As for me, I wanted a commuter vehicle. Cheap and dependable. With a hatch. I was coming off a '97 Odyssey (1st gen) "un-minivan" (I detest sliding doors and captain's seats). The Fit is a mini-Odyssey (1st gen). I guess that makes it a miniature mini van. bwahahahahaha.

 

yep, cheap to own, with cargo space, reliable, and something that i wouldnt care about parking at the supermarket. it's a very practical car and works great for busy people with a busy lifestyle.

i honestly think all young moms and dads with one or two babies should have one in their household until atleast their kids are old enough to walk in/out of cars and buckle themselves without scuffing up the doors or sills, etc.

 

price was right, received fare value for 05 VW convertable, tows well behind motorhome, great fuel milage, fun to drive, lots of room for size.

I baught it so I could have a nice practice daily drive that I could lightly mode...

 

My 2003 Civic Hybrid battery pack died. Also, Honda was offering .9% interest so that was too hard to pass up.

 

Another reason to buy a small economical car like a Fit or other compacts with good mpg... and pass up on those hybrids!

 

Magic back seats that fold backwards. We placed two crates on the floor of the back passenger seats after they have been folded backwards (magic seats)

Advantage: easy to store groceries bags and day to day stuff just by opening the back passenger doors to almost 90 degrees to the car body. or you can throw stuff towards the backseat crates by entering through the front door and stretch your hands to the back to store your supermarket bags below the magic seats as you are sitting on the driver seat - safe time, more efficient.. convenience during raining days in spending less time out in the cold by avoiding opening and closing back cargo hatch just to store a few bags... only two of us.. no kids and we permanently fold back the back magic seats

avoid the daily need to open and close the tail gate hatch and preserve the wear and tear of the hydraulic cylinders of the back hatch

 

Ric- no need to worry about the rear gate dampers. they can take a lot of cycles...and pretty easy and cheap to replace.

 

Thanks... good to know that the dampers are tougher than they appear to be...

the other reason why I tried to avoid opening the rear gate as much as possible - the handle is quite flimsy as well. Other posters who are couriers found that the rear gate handle is the first to break.

The other reason I tend not to open the rear gate is trying to avoid the weather elements rain, snow etc, I found that it is easier for me to store stuff at back passenger area with magic seats folded up if I don't have any back passengers.

Other minor reason is the rear gate tend to be a bit dusty due to road splash and I don't fancy transferring the grime on my hands after opening the rear gate to the steering wheel etc... going to contaminate my burgers if I were to hold my burgers, chicken nuggets, fries, fried chicken, pizzas slices in the car
