Car Camping in a Fit - Reflectix Windows and Bedding
Not rocket science, but I haven't seen anyone posting car camping pics, so here's my 2 cents.
I got a roll of Reflectix at Home Depot and made cutouts for every window except the windshield. for the windshield I am using a standard Jumbo Reflective sun visor and a curtain setup that I have. Why Reflectix? It is super easy to put in place, take down and store. Also, it not only blocks out 100% light (both from getting in and getting out), but it also helps to regulate the inside temperature (A LOT).
For my curtain setup up, I used a 1/4" diameter bungee cord that I bought at an army surplus, and 2 old heavy black bed sheets. My gf sewed a channel through the top for me to run the bungee through. I tied both ends to mini carabiners, and I clip them around the backseat seatbelt bars. The front wraps around the 2 visors and the rear view mirror. It adds a nice "homey" effect. (Home, not gangsta g homey)
For the sleep arrangement - I push both seats all the way forward, and lay them all the way back (taking off the headrests). I have a custom built foam bedding piece (I can measure if someone needs me to) that fits snuggly between the edge of the seats and the cargo back area. 2 people can sleep very comfortably.
I just tested this bad boy 2 nights ago in Patagonia, AZ. The temp dropped into in the low 30s. A couple down sleeping bags and hot cocoa - good as gravy. Actually, we were so warm we slept in our skivvies. I also have a VW Vanagon, and to be honest, we were more comfortable when sleeping in the Fit.
Here's the pics:
inside before bedding in place. you can see the window covers and the curtains

bedding in place - plenty of room for 2

it only looks messy cuz the sleeping bags are tossed around - but its very spacious. The tan and green thing is a hammock that I have looped through the oh sh*t bars. It provides overhead storage for everything! when you are laying down, it's nowhere near you

Middle of the night - shutter open for 30 seconds

here's the full Flikr Set

I will be testing this bad boy tomorrow night in Patagonia. The temp will be in the low 30s. A couple down sleeping bags and hot cocoa - we'll be good as gravy.

Fire bottle
Hey Vinny, nice touch on the fire bottle. Just a feedback on the location and safety. Looks good and all but might want to consider putting it lower, like maybe the pillar behind the front seats or lower in the hatch area. That thing could be a missle hazard on somebody's head if you get into an accident, front or back.
I guess the the Run Cool Heat escape hood louvers are pretty unique..They are considered ugly by some but they do help to lower under the hood temperature and the interior of the car was much cooler with the A/C on during the record heat this summer. RunCool Real Heat-Escape Hood and Side Louvers

Yeah, may make it look crisper..

I think it looks very nice... Now that I have really sticky tires compared to what I have had on it, I wouldn't mind having the same type of seats and steering wheel..It's hard to control the car when your ass is sliding all over the place. You have your interior set up for serious driving.
I like that. Very much. Well done sir! I like the gauge pod on the dash, what you got up there I think I see a wideband.. any future plans on an AEM Tru-boost?
