Gonna Buy New 2013 Fit - Have Questions
Hi All
New member Charlie the massage therapist in Denver here. I have a few questions re buying a new Fit in the next few months. It is February 2013 as I write this.
1) These are still made in Japan itself, right? If so, why have prices not fallen since the japanese currency has declined 17% in the last 5 months? We should be seeing at least part of that change reflected in the price by this point. A $1000 price cut would only be about 1/3 of the amount of the currency decline. What's with the sticky prices?
2) I recall from another forum that some where having problems with tires and that there was only one company that made tires for the Fit? Any problems you folks report? Tires hard to get or overpriced?
3)I see lots of the Honda made accessories can be purchased at Amazon and other places for about 25% less than dealer price. I can also get my very low cost Mexican mechanic to install them for a fraction of what the dealers charge for labor. Any advice or drawbacks to this approach? I basically do not trust dealers and consider them to be way overpriced.
Any ideas or advice are welcome. I am not very knowledgeable about cars. Just a user...
Thanks

1) Car prices dont change based on currency once the price is set it will only change based on supply and demand.
2)The stock tires on every car suck. after you wear them out just change them out for some 205/50/r16's.
3) Always buy your parts online unless the dealership is offering a special and you will save.

Supply and demand, supply is low until they start building these things in Mexico. Right now they're still built in Japan (for U.S. anyway) they will charge what they can get, it's just smart business as long as they keep flying off the showroom floor.

Stock tires are garbage, just get a different size as 185/55/16 is an odd size. Sizes like 205/50/16 have abundant choices and is more common, therefore usually cheaper. Again supply and demand in play, ha. They still fit well on the stock wheels and look good IMO anyway.

Nothing wrong with using your own mechanic. Only drawback is the maintenance isn't recorded and won't show up on Carfax, but if you keep a detailed maintenance log that might offset that in the future if you try to sell. I also hate dealerships and refuse to go unless I absolutely have to (warranty, etc.). They can't deny you warranty work because you don't service your car there but they can make it more of a pain in the ass

Last year Honda was losing money on each Fit it sold in the US, it was hard to find one in May. But last week at the dealer they had 8 on their lot. I guess with higher supply you can work a better deal.

I prefer Costa Ricon myself, 75 cents an hour....
It may not matter, but Honda accessories installed as part of a new car purchase, are fully covered by the bumper-to-bumper 3/36 warranty. Its also another bargaining point. I got an couple of accessories thrown in for free after the internet price quote was honored.
As for exchange rates, Honda has been losing money on Fit's sold in the US for years because of where the exchange rate was. That is why production is being shifted to China and Mexico. Our Canadian friends are getting screwed by the automobile companies because prices have not come down even with the recently stronger Canadian dollar.
