even if it wasn't written off, those gaps (esp the top view, rear hatch area?) is bad.... it will never drive the same again. it looks pretty twisted.

as bad as the car is - you're alive. a car can be replaced. at the end of the day, it's just an econobox honda.

After talking with Geico today they have my car estimated at 11K worth of damage. Car booked out at 15, 700. He says it is 50/50 right now if they are going to total it because it's right on the line. Here told me he would for sure let me know tomorrow.
On a side note. Thanks again to everyone on this forum. You guys have given me a ton of useful information and I really appreciate it. Thank You!

Great news, glad they're going to take care of it.

What now?

Just to recap:
Geico is your insurance, the lady who hit you (there's a police report) is insured with Safeco. Your car, has $11K worth of damage (2012 book value $15,700) and it's Geico's decision whether to total it or not. There may be additional damage to the car in front of you (complicates things, they have complex equations to determine liability). This occurred in CA.

Geico will turn around and collect from Safeco (suing if they have to) so don't worry about them.

If you're not happy with Geico's settlement, talk to a lawyer. The few hundred in lawyer's fees should be reimbursed by insurance as well.

So they totaled my car yesterday. Avc at 15, 721 they are paying out 16,911 which will cover my lean & I will get back about 2k, so I am losing about 500 from my initial payment. However I will be getting enough from pain & suffering to make up for it. I am going to get a new fit this week. This time however I think I want a sport.

This is the best result. In my professional experience, only 5 percent of body shops do a truly great job. 80 percent of the shops out there do a mediocre to bad job and dont follow the suggested repair procedures. The other 15 percent do a job which can simply pass but if you look real close you can tell it was repaired. Even if the car was taken to the best shop it would still have that scar on its record of being a repaired car.

I am really happy with the outcome because I could have easily lost a lot more then 500.

Thanks again everyone!!

I spent a deal of time yesterday deciding on whether to get the sport or the base. However I love the look of the sport and its add ons. Plus I am getting it for a great price. =)
