Check fuel cap message
Check fuel cap message
So today, I start my Fit at noon, see this message on the computer screen. Now I am the guy who ALWAYS closes the gas cap fully, till it clicks AT LEAST once.
So, I shut it off, go back there, and... it's tight. I turn it again, it clicks again.
Back to the car, start it, still the message.
Owner's manual states to do the same, and it may take a few days for the computer to turn the message off, I guess it has to relearn that everything's OK.
The pisser- it WAS tight. Still is. I can't know if it's anything else for a "few days" anyway. I guess I'll give it five.
Anyone else have this?

I was in New Jersey, land of stupidity (and socialism) where you are not allowed to pump your own gas. So I give the guy my credit card and he asks for the zip code, because the pump requires it. I have no idea...it is a business card (though it is my business) so I give him my office zip, then my home zip and they both fail. Annoyed, I ask for the card back and I rip out of there, not even realizing he had the cap off.
I saw it in my sideview mirror, right as the message came up on the dash.
I pulled over, tightened it, got gas and damned if it didn't take like 80 miles of driving to get the stupid message off the dash. Insane.

With OBD2 ( on all US cars since 1997), it takes 3 "drive cycles" (Cold-warm-cold) to reset the light. So you could drive it for 1000 miles and never shut it off anf the light will still be on
If it's still on after a few days, talk to the dealer. You wont hurt a thing by driving with it on. It doesnt affect the engine emissions system, this only covers the vapor recory system. SO go in when it's convenient to you (or your sick of the light

Happened to my wife a month ago with our Odyssey. Unfortunately it doesn't have this feature so I had to pull the damn ODB2 code to determine the problem.
Good to see they added this feature. Odds are the dealers were getting annoid too.
