Air Conditionning - problem or not ?

I read a few post and saw that some people thinks the AC is weak in the Fit. I actually agree with that and this is the main thing that bugs me about the car presently.

But I saw another post of a guy in Florida that says the AC is perfect and cools very fast even after being all day under the sun.

How is the AC working out for you guys ?

In my case the best setting to get cool air is to set the air intake to come from outside and to shoot air at the feet and Windshield. I swear to you that if I set it to shoot at the face and feet the air is not as cool.

My A/C works great here in PA, we've had a a lot of different weather here in the past couple weeks, anything from temps in the 100's or torrential downpours. My A/C gets super cold within about 20-30 secs after starting the Fit and blowing the hot air out of the a/c vents... Hope that helps

I live in Florida and I've had no problems with my Fit. It sits out in the office parking lot in hot sun all day long. I usually use the windshield screen, but even when I forget, it cools down quickly when I raise the fan speed. July-Aug has put it to the test and in my opinion, it passed.

Remember, the best settings are to have the temp on cold, the vents on full front, and having the air set to recirculate. If you don't, it's having to work harder by pulling in hot air fron outside and cooling it down.

The a/c has worked great for me this summer.

One trick I use for maximum cooling: turn fan to MAX, air to RECIRC, and close the right side vent.

I'm in the path of Ernesto too. It will be a tropical depression by the time it gets here. Just rain.

Ernesto conked out -- only a tropical depression after heading up the Florida peninsula. I'm still waiting here in Central FL for the heavy rain and wind gusts. Strengthening may happen depending on where it exits land. The further south over water, where it can access the Gulf Stream, the stronger it will get. If it heads back into the Atlantic at the north end of Florida, the Carolinas won't get much of a storm. I'll keep you posted. Glad my Fit can fit in the garage! In PA I guess the worst problem may be flooding, like Ivan. My mother lives in PA and she said they didn't get any warning before Ivan hit.

Where I'm at, the temp has been in the 90's all summer. My Fit sits in the sun, while I'm at work. I have an interior temp gauge, and it shows 140(F) inside the car most days.

I lower all 4 windows, with the A/C on fresh for about a minute to blow some of the hot air out, then I close everything up, turn it on recirc, blower doing vent/floor, with the side vents open.

I drive home for lunch (3.6 miles) and by the time I get there, the temp gauge us down around 90, and it is comfortable (the temp gauge takes a while to respond to the actual temperature as its housing has to cool down.)

Once, when it was very hot and humid, I was on the interstate, with the A/C on fresh and my A/C core began to freeze up. I hit the A/C button and allowed the outside air to clear the ice build-up, and then I turned it back on with the recirc on, and no more issues.

I have a problem with the car getting suddenly slow whenever I use the fan in any temp setting. I have never been in a car with so much draw for the fan. I can feel the car hesistate every time it turns on and pick up when I turn it off. Is anyone else noticing this or is it just me? I know its a small motor but I used to have the civic stanards with the 1.5l and never had a draw from power like that when the fan was turned on.

It suddenly started to pour here. Doesn't look any worse than one of our heavy summer storms. This is the kind of "hurricane" I like -- enough to get the day off, not enough to endanger lives and property. My satellite dish reception keeps getting knocked out; the dog is hiding. There were two broad-tailed hawks hanging out at the top of one of my trees and they headed for shelter. My Honda Accord wagon wouldn't fit in my garage after I installed a hurricane garage door, but the Fit is nice and cozy, safe from flying debris.

Car cooling tips:

Get your windows tinted. Use a good quality metallic film, and use a good experienced installer.

Leave at least one window slightly open on hot days

Get a front windshield sunshade. Use it religiously. (they also keep sunlight off of your dash - good for preventing cracks)

When you first get in your hot car, roll down all the windows. Turn the AC on max, set to fresh air. Drive a couple minutes with the windows down to flush the hot air out of your car. Then roll up the windows. When the air at the vent is nice and cold, switch to recirculate. Lower the fan speed as the inside temperature becomes comfortable.

I want to get them tinted this week, probaly Friday Morning.

But what is a good "metallic film"
I heard of:
SunGuard
and
Llumar ATR

Which one is the best...Are they basically the same?

What he said, we have had alot of days over 100 this year and the fit a/c works great.

I've used the 3M metallic film on my last two cars, went with the darkest allowable by state law, and it works out great.

Fray Adjacent is 100% correct!

I had my windows tinted with 3M FX HP and the car is much cooler. I believe that they used 35 and 20 tint. It cost me $230 with professional installion at the same place that the local dealers use. Takes about 2.5 hrs and they loosen all four door panels so that you can't see the edge of the film with the window closed.

I went to Wal Mart and got a silver window shade for the front window. Cost about $8,

Now the a/c can keep the car comfortable. We have been having temps in the mid 90's so I have the a/c on all the time.

The A/C in my Fit works great, even with the horrible GA humidity and heat (100+ many days this year). I do like others have said, I leave window cracked partially, then when getting in the car, I roll all the windows down and blast A/C on fresh for about a minute, then roll everything up and hit re-circ. A/C blows ice cold, several times Ive had to actually move the temp up from its coldest setting bc it gets so cold after awhile.

I'll keep testing...It might be that I am a bit difficult...I had a Nissan Murano before...And when I was putting the AC the air came out cold right away.

the fit puts out 40F from the vents, it may take a while to get there on 100+ days, but it does get there & stays there. Get some good window tint, and you'll be ok!
