Question Why does the BASE have the rear hatch lock and the SPORT does not?

I was reading my quick start manual (yeah I am a nerd) and I noticed that it said that the BASE edition has a rear hatch lock where you can place your key in, and the SPORT does not....

Why is that?

Because in the sport you unlock it with the remote.

true but it would be nice to open it with a key (which I am used to, never had this remote thing before) instead of opening the whole car every time and wasting remote battery life....

know what I mean?

On the sport, wouldn't that set off the alarm??

Can't say I do. Once you have one you will never go back. It is very convenient. Battery life isn't even an issue with the remotes. They will last for a couple of years with frequent use, and they don't just die on you one day. You won't get locked out since you have ample time to change the battery before it dies.

And no...using your key rather than the remote won't set off the alarm.

im guessing b/c using your key is very primative now a day. so the remote would be considered a more refined feature to put on the higher end fit.

I personally hate opening cars with keys, because there is always a chance of scratching the paint accidentally, the lock can freeze or get stiff, etc... with the key FOB you just click once to enter, or twice to unlock the entire car. I love it!

We had an Impala for three years before our Fit and used the key FOB very frequently and never had to replace the batteries. It was still working great when we sold the car.

I also agree.....I don't like using the key to open the doors for fear of scratching the car.

One less key lock for rooky crooks to break. Plus it looks better without it.

I have been using the key fob consistently on my 2000 Accord Coupe V6 and I am still on the original batteries. Our previous 97 Nissan Quest's key fob original batteries were still going strong when we traded it for the Fit in May. Remote entry is the only way to go.

I have the base and never use my key for the hatch lock. My alarm unlocks it the same time as the doors, the same idea as the sport model and it also unlocks automatically when you unlock the doors anyway so it's no biggie either way. I suppose it is nice to have just in case I guess.

say, your sitting in the drivers seat, blasting van halen, and da little lady walks up to load the rear hatch, oops its locked.
what is easier, turn off ignition, unhook seatbelt, open door, get out, either walk to the back and unlock the hatch, or throw her the keys,

or simply press a button and bang your head?
I might be wrong about this, sometimes I dont sit and listen to van halen with my seatbelt on.

Or you could press the master lock button on the driver's door...
