Considering Fit or Hrv
Considering Fit or Hrv
Hello everyone I'm considering my first ever fit. I'm also looking at the HRV and I like things about each vehicle. The one thing that makes me a little nervous about fit it's size and being so small for safety purposes God for bid being in a accident and being immediately crushed. I love the inside of the fit for its size it is very comfortable I'm looking at the EX model however there are things about the HRV I like also of course fit is less expensive so lower car payments is always a plus 😍. Decisions decisions🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
The Fit does pretty well in accidents. If you look at pictures of crashed Fits, you see that the front is often crushed in (as its designed to do, to absorb energy) but the passenger compartment remains pretty much intact (also as its designed to do). Frankly, just about any car sold today is much better in an accident than just about any car sold not all that many years ago; walking away from accidents at highway speeds is not at all exceptional, as it once was.
As you observe, there are plusses and minuses to both the Fit and the HR-V. I think the Fit is a better deal overall, at least for my needs, but that's somewhat a matter of opinion and differing requirements and wants. I will say that I think my Fit has been the best and most useful car I've owned to date, not that any have been bad cars.

I looked at both before I bought our 2017 Fit. What sold me on the Fit over the HRV was for the lower price it had nearly the same interior room plus the mpg was better.
I also liked the looks of the Fit. The HRV is more generic looking to me, the Fit has more character.
As to the seats, we just got back from a trip to Colorado Springs driving from our home here in central Mexico. About 1600 miles driven in 3 days, then 2 weeks later doing the return trip. I'm 68 and had no problem. Will admit that I couldn't have done it without cruise control, helps to be able to move your feet around.

Well there are I think valid reasons why someone might prefer a HRV over a Fit, or Vice Versa.
But IMO safety wouldn't be one of them.
I think both vehicles have airbags o' plenty, and are designed very well to survive crashes.
You should try to find the post where the guy had his dash cam on, while he accidentally rolled his FIT several times. The car was a mess...he was evidently fine.
No vehicle is a magic bullet protecting against any and all crashes or impacts. But I think modern design and uni-body construction and safety cage build qualities have really upped the ante on what is possible.
I've watched crash tests with Smart Cars. And the way the passenger cage holds up, is really amazing. You'd still be dead, because you are rapidly decelerating from speeds of 55 mph or higher to Zero, and the body has a hard time dealing with that reality. BUT...it wouldn't be a death caused by impact from the surrounding vehicle.
So fairly, I say test drive both. Look closely at both. Get what you like best.
I think the HRV is a great looking product. If you want more size? It may be the better choice for you.
