Do NOT clear all of the codes as it will set all of the readyness monitors OFF and you will have to start all over again getting them to change to ready.

thanks-heaps to all for weighing in...I will do the OBDII Scan at Auto Zone tomorrow morning and go from there..in the meantime I will try driving the car today (Sunday) hopefully the roads are less congested on this holiday day.
Re:disconnecting battery, other than that, the only other thing I can think of (laymans analysis here) is that the car was not driven for 2-3 months stretch, but this is not a hybrid car so I am assuming that should not have affected the " not ready" mode of the car.

UPDATE: No dice...spent the afternoon today doing the "re-learn" process..drove 50-60 miles then 90 seconds steady gas, then 10 minutes in street traffic, then shut engine off 30 minutes, i check the engine light after the 30 minutes and it still has the X5 blink scenario..i did this re-learn process again but engine light still blinks 5 times..so off to Auto-Zone tomorrow.

Only 3 Orielly's locations in NY and they're all out in the sticks..so hopefully Auto-Zone can do it.
If anyone tell me what the OBDII screen will show when testing for readiness I would really appreciate it.
Chances are high that the average rookie agent at Auto-Zone will have no clue either so it would be helpful if I can figure out what the "readiness monitor" reading will say or should include..since I now understand it wont actually dish out codes.

Mine is not a normal scanner/ reader. I use my scan Gauge. It simply says "Ready" or "Not ready" whenever I ask for a display of codes. If it is "not ready", I enter a text string to get the actual details. I'm sure a real code reader is much easier to use and is probably different between brands.

STRANGE..so I went to Auto-Zone and got them to run their cheap looking scanner and it came back "00" and "Finished" or a word similar..frustrated I didn't know what to do and had a nagging suspicion that the scanner they used looked like a $20 scanner..at any rate, I go back to the testing station to see if they can give me longer time (re-test within 10 days of failure) to fix my problem but LUCKILY I ran into the dude that initially tested my Fit. He asked me if I had put on the recommended 100 miles, I told him I put 165 miles so he convinced me to test it even if I still had the blinking engine light scenario.
Thinking to myself I had nothing to lose at this point and the re-test was free anyway I agreed. Lo' and behold I actually passed!! Don't ask me how or why but I'm obviously elated this one's behind me, though I have no clue WHY it passed since I still get the X5 blinking engine light scenario..strange indeed.

Inspection is every year in NY..but atleast I would know what to do if I have to leave my car inactive for long stretches..i may have to do it again but atleast I would know what to expect next time..
thanks for all your support guys!

if i had to guess - the testing station has a policy in-place that says if the readiness codes are not reset AND the customer drives XX (100?) miles and brings the car back with the exact-same readiness-codes unset, then consider that the possibility that the code-setting is broken in the computer and assume that the car is actually OK-to-test...
regardless, you found out that having a conversation/relationship (albeit brief) with the tester is useful... congrats... :-)

hfelton - thanks..with just under 35K original miles on the Fit, I would be surprised (if not shocked) if anything is indeed broken but then again anything is possible. As you suggested, I am just glad its behind me now.
Cheers
