Speed Trap!

Got my first speeding ticket ever this afternoon while heading to Ikea in Richmond. 2 cops had a trap set up going south on Knight just after King Edward. I took off at the green light and then accelerated to pass some cavalier, next thing I know 2 blocks up some guy walks out into the street waving me over I was like wtf, so I pull over and there is another car ahead of me getting a ticket too lol. The cops were just grabbing everyone coming down knight. I saw 2 more people get pulled in after me. Quite the operation they had going, very sneaky and easy pickings to give out tickets.

Now the good news!! The cop was checking out my car as I pulled over and he circled it and didn't say anything about my exhaust or tinted tail lights Anyways poof there goes $140!

76km/h in a 50km/h zone. I usually keep well under 70km/h when driving around. I was trying to pass someone that's why I was going so quick.

That sounds about right, I would do about 80km in 50 zones in Vancouver when I lived there... just goinging with the flow. I remember a few times when I was doing about 80km and a cop would be in the lane becide me just cruising along at the same speed.

Here in stupid Calgary everybody does 10 under the limit. Has been getting better over the years, but consistantly I get huge groups of people do 70km in 80 zones. God forbid you do more than 5 or 10 above the limit here because they have way more cops and totally abuse the photo-radar!

One thing that is pissing me off about Alberta is that they have a new rule, if you see police or emergency lights you have to slow down to 60km even in 100 zones. Sure I understand the logic, I totally agree actually. Safety of our service people takes priority and it is only sensible for people to slow down. What I think is crap is when they sit on the side of the road with their lights on in a 100 zone disrupting traffic flow abusing the rule to generate extra funds.

I am always on the fence with police, on one hand I know they serve an important role & have to put up with a lot of crap from retards...
on the other a select few are such d!cks to me sometimes I totally lose faith in the system. Infact oddly enough the only ticket I ever got was not deserved and when I fought in court and lost (which really makes me question the system) the cop saw me outside the court room afterwards and started making fun of me!! I was becide myself, the guy actually lied in a court of law to wrongly convict me and took it apon himself to approch me and be a total ass about it. I could care less about the money and I nearly took it a court of appeals out of principal. I wish I had a tape recorder or something when the guy started spouting off afterwards.

But with that said most cops I have run into are pretty good and are looking to do the right thing. I try not to let one bad apple ruin the bigger picture. lol, sorry for the rant. It happened like 4 years ago and I am still bitter the system failed me! That stupid #&^&$ d!ck!

lol, anyway to sum up.... 80km in a 50 zone in Vancouver sounds pretty normal to me!

Don't pay, fight it.

Follow instuctions on back of ticket, when given court date go to court house and have it changed. Most officers have all their contested tickets grouped for one court day, unlikely the officer will attend another day just for one speeder. If he doesn't show up, poof, you save yourself 140 bucks. If he does show up, just say you were accelerating around "what you thought was" a dangerour driver, you will or might receive a reduced fine. Also, was it raining on the day of your ticket. Rain, fog can interfere with radar equipment. Good luck.
