Using the term motor incorrectly is NOT poor grammar it is using the wrong terminology in an automotive forum leading to noobies learning incorrect terminology from someone who should know better.

All I did was QUOTE your post to let the others know it wasn't me. No shot at your grammar intended. If I wanted to correct your grammar I would have said so. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

IMO thats abusing the system. Neg rep should not be passed out for little things like saying motor instead of engine. Thats just wrong..Whatever tho, i just hope you dont go around the forum doing things like to members. Doing it to me is onething, everybody is a whole other thing.

I'm giving them slack but if you notice SOME people jumped all over me after jumping to the conclusion that I was the one that neg repped a member for poor grammar WHEN IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE. And wonder of wonders no apologies from the ballbusters.

And this is a TECHNICAL forum that people all over the world read. WE are supposed to be the best Fit site so prove it and use the PROPER terminology after all this isn't facebook or some other kiddie site it's FitFreak.

So don't lead noobies into using the incorrect term motor when you should be saying engine. As you can see no one has yet to post WHY they insist on using the incorrect term motor to refer to an engine because there is no reason to use it besides "being cool"

Ohh yeah im going to be cool, im going to say "MOTOR" and impress everyone! You really think that hahaha. Damn you dont understand man. Maybe that would be cool in Australia but it doenst mean your cool if you say motor here in the states lol. Or maybe it was cool to say that back in 1950s lol.

See what I mean about jumping all over me for something he knows NOTHING ABOUT. If you know something about my negative repping POST IT don't endlessly SPECULATE.

Tool you and the other moderators took on the RESPONSIBILITY of "forum leader" (see the link on the bottom of the forum page VIEW FORUM LEADERS). So act like one and use PROPER TERMINOLOGY if OTHER non leaders use it that is different than a moderator "forum leader" deliberately using incorrect terminology when there IS NO REASON TO USE THAT TERM other than "it's cool" the correct term is ENGINE.

Then give us the benefit of your long years and explain to us WHY you use the incorrect term motor to refer to an engine. If it's not trying to be cool then WHY DO YOU DO IT WHEN THERE IS A READILY AVAILABLE PROPER TERM TO USE engine???

And YOU were the one that popped in this post TRYING to bag me if you don't want to discuss it then don't post.

I couldn't agree more, with all the popularity of the rep system we should only give it out when truly deserved for both neg and positive rep.

With that said, I need 3 more reps to get another green dot.... can somebody rep me for my wise words?

I would, but I'm not allowed lol!

BTW, I agree that people shouldn't just assume it's Claymore giving out negative reps. Assuming makes an A** out of U and ME!

I know this is a professional forum, but I think we all only know so much. Unless all moderators are experienced mechanics, we can only offer so much. I honestly feel motor and engine are interchangeable terms. But that's just me

For the record, according to Merriam Webster:

MOTOR:
1: one that imparts motion; specifically : prime mover2: any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion: as a: a small compact engine

ENGINE:
4: a machine for converting any of various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion; also : a mechanism or object that serves as an energy source

"that develop energy" "converting any of various forms of energy "

You can't see the difference between "converting" and "developing" it's a major difference.

If you use it tell us WHY nobody in the "motor" category has ever said WHY they prefer to use INCORRECT terminology.

What makes it imperative to speak like an amateur when the obvious difference has been explained to you?

What's so cool about using the word "motor" over "engine"? What makes "motor" so many times more impressive and hip? It doesn't impress anyone if I were to use "motor" instead, does it now? It's all ****ing semantics.

And this is not a technical forum; this is a community of Fit/Honda/car enthusiasts, not a bunch of automotive technicians. We'll use whatever terms we're familiar with or have been accustomed to using. If you want to use your "correct terminology", then be my guest! You do that. If someone disagrees, then you can keep your "correct terminology" to yourself. I could be an ass and correct the poor grammar of a lot of members, but I don't because I let them and keep to myself. If that's the way they want to type and talk, then so be it.

And all of a sudden the forum moderators are expert technicians who should know what terminology to use? When did that come about? You don't have to be an expert automotive technician to be a moderator on a car enthusiast forum.

You're saying that the "forum leaders" have made the premeditated decision to use "incorrect terminology" and therefore deceive us so? They aren't using one over the other in order to lie to us.

"Jumping all over" you? How the Hell is he doing that? He's basically telling you to do whatever, just don't abuse the system. That's not jumping all over you. All high and mighty, never wrong. You instigate so much and just love to press your views and opinions on everyone around you, huh?

Maybe I've gone overboard. Some people's attitude really digs at my skin. My apologies to the moderators. I felt something needed to be said. This won't happen again, as I will neither read nor reply to claymore anymore. If need be, delete this. I really needed to get that weight off my chest.

Yeah but the definition also says "or impart motion". Also, the example it gives is an engine. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, therefore I would interpret the "develop energy" portion of the definition to be converting energy which is in the definition of an engine. You need to convert one form of energy into another to develop the other useful type of energy.

Wow that takes the cake a mod off his rocker THREATENING another member with physical harm. Like a kid like you could bring me any pain. Somebody stick a fork in Tool he's done. And isn't THREATENING another member with physical harm a violation of forum rules??

The less violable members were having a nice discussion until you blew a gasket nobody has to make you look like a fool you're doing a good job on your own.

Just because you and others don't like the discussion and are throwing a FIT (pun intended) your side of the discussion is still refusing to answer the question WHY. You continue to involve yourself to the point you burn out lighten up it's JUST a discussion of proper terms if you don't like the discussion than stop joining in .

You brought in the other subjects. You insist on using the improper terms there is no reason other less excitable members than you can't continue this discussion without going off the deep end it's a useful discussion and still no one has answered the question WHY do it??
