Rep Points..does anybody really care about them?
Tyler
once i can rep you, i will to try to help you out man!
This thread has officially destroyed the "rep" system's credibility. It is gone forever, thanks to its abuse in THIS thread.
I feel like I was at a really cool car show and somehow wandered into the child-care area.
Sorry to see this happen. It's worse than a troll, in that it's come from our own community.
The people whose credibility it has hurt are the ones who have been the most helpful. KoolKevin, for instance, has gone way above the call of duty to help people with his "How-To's", and now any joker with a cohort can out-rep his well-deserved points. This has only cheapened the system.
In retrospect, it seems to me that rep points should never have been enabled in the off-topic area. That's like having a good reputation at the strip club.
Damn.

Its not what i hads in mind while making this. It was a great thread 'till it got out of hand...
Now everyone rep fits_all!!!! j/k

Besides every now and then a good point comes up where people don't feel comfortable posting the comment or question on a mainstream informative thread. Off-Topic takes some of the pressure off of the posters.
I have to say, this thread has generated a lot of interest and postive reaction which is a good thing in my books. These rep systems always have some more serious reasoning behind them, but really you can't take them too seriously.
At the end of the day a good majority of people are on here to interact and discuss things related to their cars with others mostly for fun.
The title of this thread really puts the point across, Do rep points really matter that much?
The answer is not really; obviously the system is open to abuse almost regardless of how much people want to make it work for the intended reasons it was established, secondly at the end of the day we are all people with equal rights and for that reason alone the system is flawed. People shouldn't look to the dot system or rep power to judge someone, everybody is treated equal until they do something stupid.
The main thing I find useful about the rep system is when a troll or moron comes on and starts harassing people he/she gets a red dot. It flags the person to everybody else as a trouble maker.
Anyway, I do see the merit in the system. I gave Claymore a rep for proving some useful technical information to me the other day. The real question is, how do you enforce ethics for the system? Even if you could, would people still work the system for more points?

because there are no rules. Try to be a smart a** and receive neg what did you expect nobody would catch your sarcasm and reward you for it.
If claymore is about serious internet business
and
serious internet business is about pr0n and whores
then through transitive property
claymore is about pr0n and whores?
Is that what you are trying to say? That is not very nice.
EDIT: I don't think claymore is about pr0n and whores. I was just trying to be silly and lighten the mood. EPIC FAIL on my part.
