Can anyone identify this car damage?

Someone hit my car in a parking lot. It left this imprint. Anyone have an idea what device or kind of car this could be from? It happened in a supermarket lot so presumably the perpetrator will be returning to the scene of the crime from time to time.

My guess was the step rails that people attach to pickup trucks. Not sure what they are called exactly.

Well, given the imprint, if I see it again it'll be easy to identify. I hope it's soon and there's transfer from my car so I can get the SOB to pay for the damage.

Wow, thanks. If it turns out to be the thing they use to steer the carts, etc. then the store may be on the hook for it.

If you find the culprit take a picture including license plate and send to your insurer. Let them deal with it -- they'll seek to recover from the other insurer and waive your deductible if they succeed.

I don't have collision coverage but I will scan the parking lot every time I go there and will call the police if I see a suspect vehicle, assuming it's from a car/truck and not something like an electric shopping cart or the machine they use to move the carts around.

Could be but given how hard it hit and with straight-on impact it'd have to be a low-mounted spare. Other parts of the bumper are also scratched up.

My guess will be a tire as well! When I used my car only for commuting and parked it on the back apartment lot with high gang activity (!) it had least amounts of dents and scratches. As soon as I parked it in residents lot and used if for shopping I've see a lot of dings and other damages

How to you know it was a straight on impact?

The letters are deformed, My guess is that it's an SUV with tall sidewalls that was backing up with it's wheels turned and the tire rubbed your bumper

Yeah that looks like idiot in an SUV/truck ground their sidewall against your car.

Got to love people who don't care about other people's stuff, are oblivious to their surroundings AND drive a vehicle that is massively bigger than they can handle thus weaponizing it.
