Not just no, but

HELL NO!! :P

I'd make my son drive it. :) But I think he would refuse. He has his pride too.

One thing I like about the Yaris, it comes in many more colors....like yellow! Next year, Honda will probably offer the Fit in yellow, but I can't wait that long. Anyway, I too considered the Yaris (3 door lift back), I think it's a pretty cute car. But after reading some not so great reviews I decided against it. And that center thing with all the instruments is just so...strange. I don't think I could ever get used to that. Plus, the base model Yaris doesn't even come with a radio!! So by the time you add up everything you want/need you are spending about as much as what a Fit would cost. The Fit just seemed like such a better car.

It's asking for you to take your eyes off the road. The instrument cluster on the fit is SOO sweet that the contest should end there.

Now, this may be a dumb question. Would you drive a Yaris if it was given to you for free? You are the Ultimate Fit Freak if you say No. /bow
Just to throw in my 2 cents. I'm getting an '09 Fit, but my brother got a Yaris hatchback about 3 months ago. He loves the car! I prefer the Fit because I want a bit more space, but I think the Yaris doesn't look any cheaper inside than the Fit (but the Yaris also doesn't have as many standard options). Personally, even though I'm getting a Fit, I think the Yaris is a nicer looking car. It just has "character" - it looks like an adorable "lunging dung beatle" :-) I wish the new Fit looked more like a Yaris!

Convince you to not go get a Yaris at a huge discount....

no

Go online and research all the car comparisons, the Fit hands down no contest is the better car, its huge list of awards and what not easily shows that. Drive both and if you don't feel the Fit is that much better to warrant the higher price tag then by all means go get the Yaris. Makes no difference to me what you drive, the Fit IS the better car, if its worth it is something only you can decide.

I am considering a base 5dr Yaris to a sport Fit.

I know the fit is superior in amenities, but it also costs $3k more initially. The Yaris' long term operating cost is lower when you consider the following: gas, tires, insurance, and possibly maintenance.

16 inch tires are not cheap to replace. Who knows how long they will last.

I agree with solbrothers. I WAS a toyota fanboy but I'm a convert now. If CHEAP is the whole issue the yaris may well win out. If you weigh ALL the factors then the issue gets more complex. I sound like a broken record but COST/BENEFIT! The fit doesn't feel CHEAP when you drive it. When similarly optioned the cost difference is small.
