I usually drive the speed limit on the highway. Fit isn't a fast, sports car so there's really no reason to drive fast. Rather get the most miles out my gas tank.

Yes they can, but thats more for the city and suburbs and not highway. 5 mph over gives the police probable cause so they will be looking for other tickets. I usually go up to 4 over in town and use the 9 your fine rule on the highway which is 9 your fine 10 your mine but that was before the economy took a dump. I just find a person driving 65 and follow 2 seconds behind but will pass if they get distracted.

Plus there is no way that I could afford a speeding ticket now. Don't want to give the cops any reason to pull me over.

The police are out and I lucked out twice today. One in my truck in a construction zone and one getting on the hwy from work. I can tell you that not following to close helps with lane changing. I was going 10 over in both vehicles.

Always wear the seat belt too. I know so many people that have gotten pulled over for that. So stupid imo. I should really put my front plate back on but i really dont like the look of it. Guess i should be pulled over for that and i know my luck will run out soon.

Of course, some communities have taken the issue in their own hands. Witness this: New Speed Rules
What?? 15 mph over the posted limit and you guys are advocating up to 6 months in jail and a minimum $1,500 fine??

That is really absurb. Most LEO won't even write a citation unless you're going 10 mph over the limit and now you want jail time for somebody going 5 mph faster. 15 mph over is not reckless driving, how can you possible justify this? Better build more jails and hire more LEO and corrections officers to handle the overload. And yeh your taxes will go up to pay for this as increased fines won't even begin to pay for it.

I know, from direct experience, that on the Mass Pike - posted @65mph, a tropper will pull you over and ticket you if you go over 80mph [got clocked @ 81 and was ticketed]. Ive heard from others that the NYS Thruway is the same, but in years past 75 was the drop dead speed. I also know guys who 'assume' this is the speed they can 'get away with', in fact they tend to run at least five mph over any posted speed limit just because. IMO 80mph on a posted 65 is too fast, but it's not the same as local area driving.

The law referenced is meant more for those situations other that limited access turnpike driving and posted work zone areas I think. I live in a small town along a local state road - posted speed through town is 30mph. Someone barreling through at 45 or better deserves to be ticketed to the full extent of the law, plain and simple.

yah really. maybe they should put a condition like 'at night' or something or even in 25mph residential zones or something.

Its a money grab, for me its 15 over because of my CDL license and dont matter what vehicle I drive. 2 month suspension of driver license or 2 month wages for lawyer to keep working.

to the people from California going here for that special weekend,
just like to caution you, when you see the m-resort hotel and you are very excited coz you are already in vegas, thats where those police cars are!!! i don't know where they hide, their very good at it, but i see a lot of cars
being pulled over in that area.

another thing is if your driving those "luxury" cars..hehe, -kaboomz-instant pull-over$$$
vegas style baby!!!
$what happens in vegas will only happen in vegas$
