Fuuuck. Stepdaughter's car has check engine light on. (02 Civic LX)
It was on last week--code said something with fuel system, most likely cause being fuel cap loose. I bought a new one.
Code was P1457
definition: evap emission control system leak detected (control canister system)
probably cause
loose fuel cap
vapor canister saturated
failed vent solenoid
failed purge solenoid
Pressure is good when removing the cap.
She just got gas but said the light was on before she filled her up.
Reset the light (via battery) and checked the cap.
Told her to fill it up tomorrow with some Chevron or Shell premium.
This sucks.
We got the car super cheap from a friend but I'm gonna be pissed if it dies now.
Let's hope she just forgot and didn't tighten the cap.
Any other suggestions?
Did a little googling--others are saying it could be the charcoal canister or purge control valve...bah!

are you a teacher or are you talking about your biological kids?
The problem occurs because the 10th grade test has 8th grade, 9th grade and 10th grade stuff on it...about 1/3 each.
As a result, I have to stop teaching my 10th grade stuff before the test and review the 8th and 9th stuff.
I'm a teacher.
Oh and Coyote...know anything about replacing a Vent control valve? or emissions control valve?

If I have access to a manual telling me where it is I would be able to.... It is almost always the gas cap that causes that code.... Maybe you can come up with more about it with pictures on a google search but the gas cap might have already fixed it..... Great looking car you found for her... I have to trouble shoot a leak on one of the air lines and go to town to find a replacement for a part that Ringo stole while I was under the car. He wasn't doing that for awhile so aversion therapy is in order.

I am not collecting unemployment though. GI Bill ftwwwww
I have a big brake job to tackle on Wednesday and this should make it painless.
