Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)

Our 3rd tank. 09 Sport with AT and AC on much of the time Exactly 30 mpg.,for mostly city driving with a couple of hwy.sojourns. Exactly what Honda report on EPA estimates fro mixed driving

Just drove from San Diego to Santa Barbara last night in my 07 Fit Sport AT. With Fujita SRI, Weapon-R street header, and Skunk2 cat-back, going between 70 and 75 the whole way, still saw an average fuel economy of 36.5 mpg. HAPPY!!!

Gee...I guess 38.9mph isn't that bad for city driving. I do use some hypermiling and have 652 miles on the car. My mileage seems to still be going up, the mpg miles I drive. The goal is 40mph or better.

I keep forgetting to check the tire pressure, but I'll have to do it soon, the temperature has probably dropped 20 degrees here in the past few days, and I don't trust that the dealership did it right, anyway.

Edit: After this, I decided to go check the tires. They were all at an even 32 psi (I have a base, so that's right where it should be). Good to know that the dealership did check them out, it looks like. I went ahead and put them up to 35, just out of curiosity. If the ride is crazy rough, I'll take them back down.

I just put 40psi in the front tires and 42psi in the back. See if that helps my mileage. It doesn't feel like that rough a ride to me.

Thanks johnwolak! I don't think the 35 feels at all rough or different. I'm hesistant to go up more, though, because I have a base model, and according to the side rims of the tires, the max PSI is 41. I'm not too eager to get really close to that number, so I'm going to stay at 35 for a while. I haven't filled up since I changed the tire pressure, so we'll see.

That've very true. But for the older generation who remembers having to drive at 55-60mph, which I just did on a 250 mile round trip with two adults, bicycles, and light luggage, the actual mileage calculated at 48.6 mpg. And that's including about 40 miles of suburban/city driving.

Just filled up and got 33.95 MPG ( hypermilling to the max the whole trip meter) mixed driving with racks and board on top for 160 of the 309 tip meter. Car computer said 35.9 so at least that is consistent with my 4 fill ups, 2 MPG over.
Took the racks off and going to see how much a difference it makes for the week commute.

I have had 35 once out of the 7 fillups so far. but avg 33 in my automatic. Computer repair start stop..but compared to the 18mpg clunker I had...love it.

Anybody up in the North Eastern Georgia Mountains "hills" getting 40mpg or close? with AC on my AT I get 33mpg.

I was more than a little irritated when I discovered last week that the indicated average MPG on my 2009 Fit Sport was an average of 4.7 MPG higher than calculated.

Range of errors for eighteen fills ran from 2.2 to 9.8 MPG high.

I'm glad these guys aren't building aircraft.

My calculated average is 39.3 MPG to date (automatic transmission).

OK so whatever i got a car that they said when putting it together...."this car will only get 30mpg every time (consistently) " i really don't know how you guys are getting in the high 30's and even 40 mpg! I tried EVERYTHING to get more then 30 mpg and.....nooooo not one bit. OK i have not done ONE trip on only HIGHWAY driving on one full tank....so maybe when i do we shall see.....don't want to be crass but i call B.S. on the 38's and 40 mpg.

I'm with you on some of these claims. Go to Fuelly.com or Truedelta.com and search Honda Fit. There are some really wild claims, but if you throw out the highs & lows, I think it gives you a good idea of the "average" MPG people are getting.

While your at it, search out another car, like the Honda Insight. Most people are in the mid to high 40's, but some of these jokers are claiming high 60's, even up in the 70's. There is no way.

Some of these people are probably using the computer readout, others probably can't use a calculator correctly.

During a trip on the PA Turnpike, I did manage to average a calculated 38 MPG. My last tank was practically all city driving and it was 28 MPG.

Some of these people must be coasting downhill all day. I drive as conservatively as anybody on the road, with no illusions of hitting the numbers of some of these claims.

tested out my gadget that I bought online... you know the one that taps into the car computer and gives you a constant readout. On a recent trip of over 227mi I noticed that my gauge said I was averaging 42mpg and actual mileage was 37. Well after the long constant speed trip I stopped and immediately filled up. Guess what? That was the actual mileage in my '07 Fit AT @ 64mph with the A/C. The little car starts loosing all of the mileage gain as soon as I do some start and stop driving. Conclusion: need a bigger engine. After all a buddy of mine got superior mileage in his Civic SI until he totaled it street-racing. Went out and paid cash for a G35.

i get anywhere between 30-33mpg (hand calculated since the reading on the dashboard is always 4mpg too optimistic)

Although I love my Fit the mileage is really pretty crappy, especially when you consider I routinely got 50-55 mpg in my 1990 CRX HF. And I flogged that thing.

I've been getting around 28 with mixed city/highway driving. With the AC on, the mileage really suffers. People tell me I drive too fast but I am not that crazy...really, I'm not.

I got 38 MPG on my Civic Si (Highway, A/C).
