Just completed over 800 mile trip Ocala FL. to Laweranceville Ga.got 39 mpg on trip up.Did appx 50 miles local driving hilly traffic conditions.On return to Ocala Fl. and refuel average for trip was 36 MPG which included city driving.Not whe fueled this car will shut off nozzle appx.1.5 gals short of full tank if held at full flow.When you think it is near full slow the fuel nozzle to min.flow.Fuel gauge will read over full and not drop to full reading until appx,50 miles on highway.This could be one reason for very differant mileage readings.My car now has just over 1000 miles.not realy broken in yet. 2008 Fit Sport.

Naw, it pretty level here in Miami. That was my best ever tank but I got it wrong. That was for a one way run home from work. It's 32 miles (I have a scan gauge). The tank was 45.2 (384 miles with 8.5 gals). It was still my best one yet.
Yes I have the slush box. I use the paddle shifters more to up shift than down shift. The Fit will not go to 5th gear at 32/33 mph by itself. I paddle shift up and get remarkable economy. The scan gauge shows 55 (aprox) mpg at that speed in fith.
My mileage log can be found at CleanMPG, An authoritative source on fuel economy and hypermiling . It's a site devoted to fuel economy. It was started by hybrid users, but there is a lot of good info there.

So when your in D and the cars cruising in 4th you will pop it up to 5th and get great MPG?

On my trip from California to Las Vegas, with 3 other passengers and all the luggage. I got 30 mpg, which is not bad because due to the weight of everybody and the fact that I was cruising uphill at 4000+ RPM at times. The car really lagged like a turtle, but still accelerated after 4000 RPM. When I filled up in LV, It cost less than $30. The other car that went with us was an 2003 RSX. He filled up costing somewhat between $40 and $50. It's nice to know that I'm spending about $10 less than everyone on road trip refueling.
Well, I'm kind of new to this fuel economy thing with the Fit... I'm from Canada so I'm not particularly familiar with the mpg's. To my understanding, 30 mpg would be a little over 13 kilometers per liter. I just purchased the Fit (Sports AT) prior to new years, and so far I haven't been able to get some good numbers out of it. My driving style hasn't been really hard-footed, probably just hit 3000 rpm for 1st gear and shift around 2500 rpm from there on, and nothing over 3000 rpm since there isn't much uphill in where I live. I drive mostly stop-and-go traffic in most time, but I do use the highway from time to time. Obviously, I was able to log in better mileage when I have other 50% of the tank driven for highway. But so far, stop-and-go traffic mileage hasn't impressed me.
Could it be the fuel that I get that is effecting the mileage? Do you guys stop pumping as soon as it stops on its own, or press a few more times to fill it up more? It still has 90% oil live, and so far the Fit has over 1500 km (~923 miles). To my calculation, I haven't been able to hit 30 mpg if it was mostly stop-and-go traffic. People say it gets better mileage when the car has been broken in, at close to 1000 miles, I think it's pretty much broken in.
It would be nice if any of you have any suggestion or question for me, that would be appreciated! Thanks!
note my prev.message on new fit.when fueling slow the nozzle to minimum flow when you get near full.this will allow appx.3 or 4 more liters to go in.

I asked my ex-mechanic dad about this, and he said he highly doubted that there was a charcoal canister directly connected to the fuel tank, and that I should be able to fill the tank as much as I want. But maybe things have changed in the last 10+ years on him. He said that canister is for the intake side usually or something.

I don't think it's the charcoal canister, but as far as I can remember, manual does mention something about a vapor recovery unit that's suppose to trap vaporized gasoline and preventing it from entering the atmosphere. I'm still trying to figure out what honda means by "Approximately 10.8 gallons" for the size of the fuel tank. Do some fit owners have a bigger one than others?

was getting usually 33 to 35 mpg per tank with 60% city 40 hwy. have been watching my psi in tires every week..this is a big thing to do to help mileage, got a digital tire gauge and compared to my analog one and u can see how much off the analog is.
drive not too much granny still but try not to gun it off the lights either..keep it under 70 on hwy. got my best tank this weekend when went to fill up got 37mpg. woohoo... .

Just did a round trip from Orlando to Jax and back. I was in search of 40 mpg but didn't even come close i only got 34.5 mpg. I cruised at 75 mpg the whole way, with the windows up AC off on the way there but AC on on the way back. Had one passenger in the car.
I don't understand I went to Naples and back and got 35 mpg with four people in the car, luggage and A/C on the whole time and was cruisin at 80 mph???
I guess to get 40 mpg you got to be cruisin at 50 mph AC off and windows up with no one else in the car

did a round trip this weekend little city and mostly hwy cruising around 70 with heat on some way it was on defrost that turns on ac automatically and got 40.7mpg this is my best... got 37 tank before that... woohoo could have gotten better if i had started off slowly at some of the red lights and prob was cruising arouind 65 instead on interstate but happy with the mpg..went 330 miles on 8.1 gallons..WOOOHOOO
