Ah that would suck. I somehow managed to drive my car off the lot without a dealer badge of any kind. My Fit had just rolled off the truck a couple of hours before I arrived, so my guess is they were in such a hurry, they simply forgot. Hell, I test-drove the thing with all the plastic still on everything, and the salesman had to put the fuses in himself before we took off
As for my rock-chipped front bumper, my dealer also claimed that they repainted it with stronger paint. We'll see. They missed a couple of chips where the foglights are, so I'm going to see if they'll take care of that when I take it back (taking it back cause they got paint spatter all over the plastic grill -- they had to order a new one for me).

Honda Service Announcement?
Could someone point me to the "May 2007 Honda Service News" that mentions the paint problem with the Fit? I have looked all over these threads and cannot find it. Thanks!

Don't fret about the new bumper. They send your bumper off to a re-finisher and they strip it all down and resurface it good as new. They often do this to bumpers that have minor rips or holes in them. They come out just fine. They had to do mine 2 times since the fools didn't put in a spacer the 1st time they repainted it. Good part was they got rid of my license plate holder hole

Well, I was hoping to avoid getting in on this but here I am. Waxing the car on Sunday and I noticed it peeling. Checked the other side and it's peeling there, too. As chance would have it Monday was my first free oil-change. Took it in, showed it to the tech and because my salesperson was out he ended up relaying the msg to him. Got a call later that afternoon and then didn't hear back. Went over there today, he was out but the service manager was in. She took a few pictures, told me the area Honda rep would be in tomorrow and she'd review it w/ him. I did mention these boards and that it's a widespread issue. Man, I'm bummed.
On the upside if they refinish my bumper I'm hoping that will remove some of the scrapes/dings I've gotten over the last 3 months.
I'd really, really be interested in that service bulletin so I could show it to them as well. Anybody who can link me and the others I would be really, really appreciative.

Here you go, Chuck. I Googled and found it in an Acura forum.
http://www.in.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SN/A070500.PDF
Also, a member of those forums posted:

w = A (for Honda Service News) or B (for Acura Service News)
xx = 00-99 for the year

it looks like Acura Service News only goes back as far as ‘87
yy = 01-12 for the month
zz = 00 (not sure of this code...is it always 00?)
Enjoy!

I'd print out a copy of the bulletin or save it so you have it later if you need it. They could change the URL for those bulletins at any time, or take them offline entirely.

mwhyte72,I just had mine fixed, you should also call the the 800 number to american honda they wont do much for you but they did take my vin# and and made a record of my call, if you print out copies of this forum get copies of the pics of other fits peeling in the same location, all should be fine with the rep approval, I think honda is well aware of the problem, and maybe have the dealers playing dumb about it to keep sales up. anyway the most I would worry about besides having a brand new car needing repainting, is them scratching or staining something else in your car, mine came back with scratches in the back vinyl that wraps around the window frames, a new chip on the hood, and stains on my seat, word of advise do a visual inspection with whoever takes your car in and get a signed report, I did not, so now its my word against theirs that the stuff was already there, sorry for the such a long post, but good luck.

Anyone know what or if Honda has done to fix this for the 2008's? Do they now come with washers installed as indicated in the picture?? Thanks.

Hi Folks,
Instead of taking to the dealer, I gave this a try and it took about 15-20 minutes total for 4 sides.
Here are the tools you need:
- Medium-small Philip screw driver
- Medium-small flat screw driver
- Towel (wet) to wipe things down
- Wax (optional)
Here is the part you need (from OSH):
- Nylon Flat washers 1/4 size QTY 5 (9086802) x 2 (0.49 each)
Here are a few tips:
- Go take a look at how much gap spacel you have. Mine is so tight I can hardly put a hair through. I only have 600 miles on mine; no paint peel yet but I can definitely see it coming with literally NO space in between.
- Do the back side first. The back side has no holding screw to remove for the wheel well.
- Use 2 washers for each side
- Wipe down (or wax for those who are extra picky/caring about that car) the gap. There are tons of dirt trapped in my white one.
- For the front, after removing the wheel well holding screw (just use the flat to pop it out), you can actually move the bumper out laterally so it is unlatched. You will hear a big pop. Don't worry, you can pop it back. There are latches between the screw hole to the front light.
- With the bumper moved out, you have plenty of room to slide the washer in. Use 2 on each side also.
- Check the gap afterwards: I tried one wash first and the gap is still too small. Using 2 washers forms the gap line smoothly on mine (Mine was mad 8/2007).
Good luck!

I just went to a dealer here that had a few 08's on the lot and didn't see any evidence of washers. The bumpers look just as tight against the seam as before.
