I went over my car today from top to bottom and I found the infamous bumper paint peels, but I also noticed crackling on the roof, chips from insects, and what looks like small flecks of paint missing all over the car. I sent an email to the internet manager of the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from. I don't know how this is going to work, but I am very upset about my paint.

total bummer. I have kinda skirted that issue. March 2007 a deer JUMPED on my car. I didn't hit it, it jumped on my little red FIT. Had to replace windshield, driver window, driver headlight, driver rear-view mirror, paint hood, front panel, door panel, top, pretty much all but the two passenger doors and the hatch back door. So, I've got a pretty much all American paint job now. the deer didn't fare so well.

Good luck though. What city?

I am hoping to hear from them on Monday. I will let you know whenever I find out. I will try to get some pictures of the crackles since I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem.

Fit peeling

Hopefully mine doesn't start peeling or I might have to beat some one! just kidding, but I would be pretty mad considering I have only had my Fit for a few months now and I am really liking it.

For those who got your bumper fixed, did you have the entire bumper repainted or just a quick fix to the peeling area?

Glad I read through this thread early on... Got my fit a month ago or so, driven ~1000km, no paint peel... and recently did the washer mod on it.

Put in some washers between where the bumpers meet the fenders. (4 corners) Thats what I plan to do before I drive out of the dealership.

Here is the link on how to do it:

Any hardware store or even your Honda dealer should have them.

i believe this has already been covered (i think), but i had to get my entire bumper, both front and back, repainted. there really isn't a quick fix, because if it's already peeling, it's just going to get worse. touch up paint won't do anything but cover it, and the washer solution is just to prevent it from peeling.

I think this post may have convinced me not to get a Fit. The only thing that was holding me back was the paint. Are you saying that the Honda rep reviewed the five cars on the lot, and based on the condition of your car and the cars on the lot, they gave you a new Civic for the same payments that you had for your Fit. Did they say that the manufacturing plant new about the paint issues or that they are doing something to correct it? If they change their paint process, I'll be in the market again, but not if 4 out of 5 cars sitting on a lot have paint issues.

took my nhbp fit to the dealership today so they could get in contact with honda about getting mine fixed. it was only peeling in the rear. theyre going to repaint the entire back bumper and put the washers all around, but the person who helped me said the bumper will be more spaced out from the body now. is it really a significant difference? will i even be able to tell looking at it?

According the the Honda repair link...it says that only a 0.5mm spacer is required. I cant see it being really noticable...you just need it far enough so that the fender and bumper are not in contact; so that there's no rubbing.

What sizes of spacers have everyone used and aluminum or plastic?

it actually looks the way it is supposed to when done, almost all cars have a small gap between the bumpers and fenders, it looks even now because there is a gap from the factory at the other side of the seam so when they put 1/16 inch black rubber spacer in it makes the gap line even.
also your front bumber is probably going to peel to, if you remove the one small screw where the fenderis attached to the bumper and slightly pull out the corner of the bumper you will probably see where the paint is starting to rub off from vibration in between the two pieces.
best of luck, all is well with mine after the fix.
