I just got my vehicle back from my local Honda dealership in regards to this warranty claim, and I must admit Honda did a good job meeting my needs. Not only did the repair the bumper from damage due to the front license plate, along with the peeling paint from the corners, but they also repaired all the unfortunate rock chips.
However, my only complain is they didn't do anything to resolve the problem. I remember reading here that there are plastic washers that are to be used to prevent this from happening again. Any chance someone happens to have the link?

I just got back from the dealership and the service rep is telling me that the crackles on the top of my car is from 'bird poop'. The only problem is that there has never been bird poop on my car. As for the peeling from the bumper, I will be talking to a Honda rep withing the next couple of weeks. I am going to try to have them do something about the bug issue.
Now for a bit of concerning news: The service rep told me that our paint has no clear coat! Apparently our paint is water-based with no clear coat applied to be more environmentally friendly. I am going to try confirming this with the Honda rep.

thanks to the OP for this thread. if i get the Fit, i will cut a little piece of
xpel and sandwich it between the metal and the bumper pieces to prevent
the peel back.
actually ive seen this happen on several of my cars in the past. not just
Honda's.

Me too, man. I just bought a Fit earlier this week, 2008 sport, in black. I was reading the starting of this thread thinking "OK, it's in 2006, Honda must have resolved it by now" . Apparently not, based on the latest posts.
I guess I should get that clearcoat they offered, which I didn't get because I figured the paint should be just fine. You know, I figure, it's a Japanese car, it should be great. *sigh* Makes me feel quite a bit less happy about dropping nearly $25k on my first brand-new car..

The best advice I can offer to you is to get the 3M clear bra ASAP. It can be a bit expensive, but it is better than dealing with the crap that I have to. If nothing else get a hood deflector.

Er wow, those 3m paint protection film are PRICY, $300 USD just for the bumper film, ouch. We really shouldn't have to spend this kind of money to make up for Honda's cheapness.. I wonder if a clearcoat on the paint would help.... even tho that's gunna cost a few hundred for sure, but it would probably look nicer...

The dealer offered to clearcoat your bumper? Exactly what were they offering?

What? No man, I didn't say anything about ever going to the dealer about any paint issues. I'm talking about when I bought the car just a few days ago. They offered me some "protective" package where they put a clearcoat on the paint, put some anti-liquid sealant type stuff on the carpets, do an undercoat on the underside of the car, etc....

i got suckered into that package, its some "lifetime warranty" stuff, for the interior and exterior
wonder if i can get them to fix the two deep scratches they made on my front bumper when they drilled the two screws in to hold my license plate
gotta call them up to check about the recall too...

That's most likely a paint sealant/glaze they are offering you and that will not stop the paint peeling issue. Save your money and wax the car yourself, which is what the sealant they are offering you basically is.

if you go ahead and get the bumpers repainted, they're going to be better quality than the current paint. i can vouch for that.
since my bumpers have been done, i have no scratches, chips, or anything. the hood is a different story though...

Yeah I am going to order one of those hood deflector things (although I'm having a tough time figuring out what place is best to order from). Well, not only will it make the car look a little more unique, it'll be a good way to block the hood from all those sharp little rocks that you just know are going to get kicked up and end up scratching the new paint!

Your local Honda dealership should carry them.

Well, yeah, at a hugely marked up price... haha ... not even joking tho, I can get the stuff online way cheaper than from my local dealerships, but I'm just not sure of the best place to order for an order to Canada. Oh well, I will figure it out, don't mean to change the topic... !!
