Suggestions to help neutralized mat odor

Good afternoon all,

I had purchased a Phillips cargo area mat in dark blue and while the mat is nice quality I removed it due to a real sharp toxic plastic smell. Not pleasant at all more acrid and sharp to the point of taking away the "new car" smell.

I've had it hanging in the garage for over a week now and the smell seems just as potent. I'm thinking I should put it in the sun to help.

Any ideas or suggestions that may have worked for you to neutralize the smell, or am I stuck with the stink (so to speak)

id be kinda worried about the sun's UV fading them possibly, but hanging them outside for a week or two sounds like a good plan.
