Bad noise in engine (video included)

Hey guys. I did my valve lash like I mentioned. Before the adjustment the engine would idle quiet but under load would generate a fast knock/tic until it was warm then it went away.

After the adjustment its quiet at idle when cold, then loud knock/tick under load cold and warm, and now knocks like this at idle once warmed up.

https://youtu.be/Exs_hYoYnNA (link to video of sound)

Thanks.

Hey, it's not throwing any codes. Runs good. Seems a bit gutless in the top end.

I'd start with getting a valve adjustment. Common problem with our engines.

Thanks for posting the video!
Use a search function (NOT to be a self-advertiser):
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/1st-...e-located.html
Use long screwdriver otr mechanics stethoscope
If noise is loudest at the areas mentioned in the thread
It has nothing to do with the valves.
It's a piston slap!

Yeah, its gotta be piston slap. Doesnt seem to burn oil, is it fine to run?

Wierd part is that its queit at cold start, after warming up completely it knocks at idle? Usually piston slap is the opposite?

On older cars with cast iron engine it acted differently. On my car it's most audible with warm engine between 35 and 70 degrees C. No, the engine will not blow up or blow by (pardon the pun)

Sounds exactly like mine, at this point I'm just ignoring it. Mine doesn't slap when cold, and doesn't slap when fully warmed up - only between the two. 240k miles and still going.

Good ol' piston slap. Mine will start after the cold light turns off and usually goes away after 30 mins ish of driving on the highway... it's the only thing i don't like about the car.

Yeah, mine is identical. It idles quiet as a mouse when cold, but after running it awhile the idle will knock. Light throttle on flat ground produces no sound, but as I push the throttle it begins to knock really loud. Once super warm it still knocks under load but quieter... it definitely gives me an uneasy feeling.

The drawback of this is later than normal ignition timing at acceleration (knock sensor picks piston slap as spark knock); if you push gas more, transmission will downshift (this explains declining fuel economy)

What is the brand of oil filter?
valve tick or piston slap will not add wear particles, unless it's progressing.
many loud engines tend to run for long time

It's a Royal Purple filter. Yes, just some additional reassurance that it is indeed piston slap and not rod knock.
