Knocking Noise When Steering
Knocking Noise When Steering
Hello Folks! I have a 2008 Fit sport with roughly 96k (not manual sadly) and it just developed a knocking noise when I turn the wheel at any angle and can be heard when turning below 5-10mph straight or reversing.
I’ve replaced both CV axles in the past 15k miles, and also 2 sway bar links about 20k miles ago . I jacked the car up everything was stiff with no wiggle room, however I noticed the knocking was gone when it was airborne. I’m fairly inexperienced at diagnosing problems so any and all help is appreciated
My current thoughts are the tie rods, and maybe the U-Joint but I don’t want to think about replacing that at the moment.

Sounds like it could be tie rods inner or outer. See if the steering will knock, click or clunk while the car is not moving.
You can put your hand on the inner and outer tie rod to feel any vibrations.
This is a pretty straightforward job as long as you use the correct tools. You can rent them from the auto parts store at no cost.
The replacement parts are actually quite inexpensive as well.
Make sure to get an alignment afterwards.
