this only happens if you dont do it regularly. if you wait 100 k to do it then ya you'll have a bunch of carbon build up and fuel injectors could get clogged.

To me, major would be something not included in the normal Maintenance Minder Chart for our cars.

That is true, for the most part, but there's still a chance.

Also, buying the cheap Auto Zone cleaners do nothing that today's gas doesn't do already. Just like oil, gas has come a long way since 1990. They are all mandated by the govt to put cleaning additives in.

I don't believe in this mantra, cause you don't know it's broke until it's already broken... I rather do preventative maintenance, than nothing at all and find out I destroyed my car, and insurance doesn't cover it.

but I check my fluids every couple of weeks to make sure they are still clean and fresh.
I do this, but that's about all I do.....

Took the car to get brakes checked, haven't changed them in 60k miles... and they are good. Shows how much braking I actually do... scary thought.

I'll try and get the chance to do the valve spacing checks done soon...

Major maintenance in my book consists of:

Adjust valves
Check brakes
Check suspension components
Check tire pressures
Check/top off all other fluids
Clean injectors
Flush coolant
Oil/filter change
Replace fuel filter
Replace spark plugs
Replace transmission fluid filter
Tire rotation
Transmission fluid change
Wheel alignment
Wheel balancing

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I know I probably forgot some stuff.

Did you get the brake fluid flushed? After 60K miles, it must be the color of strong tea. I try never to go more than 24 months between complete flush and replacement of brake fluid, which becomes contaminated with moisture over time.

I've never done any brake fluid changes. Does Honda recommend it? My mm never prompted me.

What color SHOULD it be? or is the tea color of Earl Grey tea a good color? opening the container holding the fluid exposes it to moisture, so I don't think checking that fluid except through the container sides is advisable, no?

Clear is great; straw is OK; Lipton is bad. Most people don't bother with proper changes of brake fluid on a car because it's such a pain. A tool such as a MityVac makes the job a lot easier for one person.

transmission drain and refill @ 80k
Tires @ 50k
Front Pads @ 70k, rears still ok per mechanic.
pressure switch in tranny had to be replaced 2 weeks ago.

It's a pretty low maint. car. All cars should be this easy really.
Can you tell us what symptoms did your transmission have that it needed a new pressure switch?

this is based on time not milage.... there was a dealership in our area that checked the amount of moister and contaminates in brake fluid on every car that went through there shop and they found that no matter the milage that it has a lot of moisture at 3 years. i flush mine every 2.

Sure. Yup it would hang up and not go into OD. Would stay at 3,500rpm at 50mph. I got the light show on the dash and later on it shifted kinda rough.
