What maintenance should I start with first?

Looking for some help here. Coming up on 100K and have neglected regular maintnenance on my 08 Fit Sport except for oil changes and new tires, everything else is original. I know I want to replace the entire brake hardware first for safety reasons. Suggestions on what to buy?

What other items should I focus on? Changing all the fluids? Spark plugs? Belts? I want to put forth the money and use this experience to learn how to modify as well.

My 2¢:

Brake fluid and at least checking the brakes are of course a very good idea. If the pads still have decent material left (which is not unlikely for the rear ones), there's no real need to change them IMHO.

Spark plugs are due. A valve adjustment is definitely do. If you have an automatic, transmission fluid would be a quite good idea. (If you have a manual, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change the gear oil, but maybe not quite so essential.) The air filters definitely should be changed, if they haven't been; likewise wiper blades.

Otherwise, I tend to think that most things are more or less check and take care of as needed: belts, hoses, battery, coolant (though it may not hurt to flush and change it), clutch if applicable, bearings, CV joints and CV joint boots, alignment, suspension parts, etc. There is a very good chance that the shocks/struts are about worn; since they tend to wear gradually, it's not always immediately obvious when driving how poor they've become.

I've probably missed a few things, and I'm sure others might disagree with some stuff I suggest. Don't make my 2¢ worth more than the 2¢ it's valued at.

If you are a savvy DIYer I would recommend a brake fluid change. It'll cost you about 10$ in brake fluid. I would just buy the Honda brand; it's cheap and apparently it is recommended to use OEM fluid for the brakes for risk of corrosion in the lines. I don't wanna open up a can of worms and start a debate; I'm sure you could use other fluids and be ok but that's just what I've heard.

If not, transmission fluid if you have an A/T is definitely very important and M/T less important. You are also due for a coolant drain and refill. If you are gonna do a MT fluid change, I'd look into the GM synchromesh. I did change my MT fluid last year and wasn't crazy with the honda fluid. My shifter is a bit notchy, especially when it is cold. Ginolicious, another GD driver swears by the stuff.

Another not so difficult maintenance is to adjust the parking brake. The service manual requires you to remove the center console but I think it can be done simply by removing the cover that hides the gap under the handle. It requires you to jack up the rear wheels to make sure they can spin freely when the parking brake is completely disengaged.

I would also consider doing a valve lash adjustment but that is a much more evolved maintenance item and I believe it requires the removal of the intake manifold (I could be wrong).

Thank you for the guidance. I am a first time DIYer and using my Fit as a learning experience for future projects, when the kids are out of the house in 15 years and I can play with Corvettes :-) I know the brakes are shot for sure, can feel it. I want to replace everything with nice performance, maybe not the "elite" but next level down or so. I have an automatic so the transmission fluid is probably something else at the top of the list at 100k miles. Any particular brands to look at? Stay away from?

Right now when I first start the car in the morning after sitting all night it will idle and at times almost stall until I feed it gas. Ideas an what could be causing that? During the day say lunch time it doesn't happen. Any recommendations for spark plug brands keeping in mind higher performance than the originals. I figure after 6+ years I should give her a little more lovin.

At a 100K, changing out the transmission fluid is the top priority then the rest of your fluids, valve adjustment, check the brakes, spark plugs, cabin filter, air filter, check coil packs, maybe suspension too.

I have 90K and I can feel my shocks getting a little softer but car still handles great.

Wow, considering you are at 100k in a auto tranny you are way overdue for a transmission fluid drain and refil. I don't own an auto but, correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the consensus is Honda OEM auto tranny fluid. It's with the M/T that other brands can be an interesting choice. Fitguy is right, this should be your #1 priority and it is an easy job.

If you are doing the brakes, you might think of replacing the rotors. If you do, you need an impact driver to remove the retainer screws.

I've been researching transmission fluid changing and see I need a suction pump to pump it into the pan. I also see on a post here that there's a filter as well to change. https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...on-filter.html

Does anyone have part number for the transmission fluid to buy. I saw on one blog someone used Amsoil.
